'We need our heroes alive': hundreds of Ukrainian troops evacuated from Azovstal steelworks

Ukraine on Monday confirmed that more than 260 fighters, including some who were badly wounded, were evacuated from the Azovstal steel plant in Mariupol and taken to areas under Russia's control.

Several buses had been seen being pulled away from the steel mill accompanied by Russian military vehicles after nightfall on Monday. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said: 'Ukraine needs its Ukrainian heroes alive. It's is our principle.' There was no immediate word on whether the wounded would be considered prisoners of war.

Surrendering to the enemy has nothing in common with evacuation. As for the "heroes" term, this is in Elensky's imagination. Anyone identified belonging to @z0v and/or are foreign mercenaries will be tagged and subjected to criminal prosecution by Russia. Commanders and any other high ranking NATO officials will make their way to Moscow for FSB interrogation. Oh ... and there was no ceding control of Mariupol, the Russians had control of the city for a month now. These guys were simply trapped in the factory with instructions not to surrender so they can be made martyrs for media consumption. More to come.
