ISEE Test Prep (2025): Learn What's Needed to Score High

The ISEE is an admission test developed and administered by the Educational Records Bureau (ERB). It is an important test as it serves as an entrance exam for many independent schools, as well as magnet ones (public schools with specialized curricula and courses).

The ISEE consists of five sections:
1. Verbal Reasoning: this section is designed to test a student’s vocabulary and verbal reasoning skills and is divided into two parts: Synonyms and Sentence Completion.
2. Quantitative Reasoning: this section tests logic and basic mathematical principles and is divided into two parts: Word Problems and Quantitative Comparisons.
3. Reading Comprehension: this section is comprised of six passages followed by related questions, designed to test reading fluency and comprehension skills.
4. Mathematics Achievement: this section is similar to the Quantitative Reasoning section, but here the student is required to implement knowledge he or she has learned in past school years.
5. Essay: the student is required to write an essay based on a prompt.

If I’m going to be enrolling for 9th grade what ISEE level would I be in and what grade levels of math and English would I have to learn?

Also, if anything went wrong, are you allowed to take the ISEE again as long as it is before your admission?
