I always forget that Dylan studied music in Wyoming.

I was like, "Hey, that looks a lot like Dylan... WAIT IT IS DYLAN."

As a residential appraiser I walked through a home inspecting while listening to beautiful piano music. I asked the homeowner who was playing and she showed me her player piano. This was a modern player piano that used a CD coupled to an electric system. I’ve wanted modern player piano ever since 😍

You know I never thought of how those ragtime auto playing piano worked, but this is cool as hell.

Whoever designed and built that they were definitely a genius.
The complexity and qaulity of its parts and systems is absolutely brilliant.

I grew up with player pianos because my Grandfather was J Lawrence Cook -- "The Piano Roll Man" (look him up). From the 1930's into the mid 70s G'pa made somewhere between 10k and 15000 piano rolls. We will never know the actual number of rolls he produced. During the Great Depression his company, QRS, let all of its employees go... except JLC. The company used a half-dozen or more pseudonyms for his arrangements to create the impression that the company was thriving. It was -- G'pa was a machine and churned out one roll after another.
He did all of the arrangements and taught WC Handy and others how to arrange for piano rolls.
He was a modest man and my favourite childhood memories are of sitting beside him, pumping the piano and singing Beatles songs that he arranged for piano rolls. Eleanor Rigby and Penny Lane were my absolute favourites! Voila!

Just when I think this man couldn't be more talented, he impresses the hell out of me yet again.

This was more educationally appetizing than most of the internet combined today.

Soooo doing OBSCURE OLD INSTRUMENTS, ARE WE?! I freaking love you. Your baking videos make me happy but obscure instruments excite me as well, so you hit all of my HAPPY BUTTONS 🎉

I am so here for the sporadic detours into Dylan's other non-baking hyperfixations.

It’s amazing the engineering that went into instruments like these. Considering the time when they were first made. It’s amazing that they still work.

I’ve read before about how player pianos work, but never fully got it. This is legitimately one of the best breakdowns I’ve seen.

Usually just enjoy the recipes. But this is a refreshing enjoyable glimpse into a creators wider range of interests. Never would have guessed dylan had this side interest and expertise.

Putting it back together and having it work perfect has GOT to be pretty damn satisfying.

I cannot convey enough how much serotonin this video gave me, from the music, to the mechanical and musical marriage, it’s just..it’s like brain candy for me.

"They mate to levers" "operate under suction" "exposing a hole" "It is with great care that the beast fits back in" "regardless of how fast you pump" and not a single innuendo? I feel betrayed

My grand aunt and great grandmother would have loved this! I didn't know you did stuff on piano too! I am so used to the cooking videos.😊

The craftsmanship here is so nice. You don't see stuff built this way any more, outside of small shops.
