Evel Knievel's Famous Snake River Canyon Jump

On September 8th, 1974, famous daredevil Evel Knievel climbed into a steam-powered rocket and attempted to blast across Idaho's Snake River Canyon.

I was in 3rd grade when this broke out! Man, Evel was the man! Every kid with a bike was jumping!

I made it a point to see where he jumped when I went to Idaho. Him and Bruce Lee were my idols growing up. Both short and tough as nails

They now have a trail that takes you out to the ramp where he jumped. It’s right by my house & I walk the trail often it’s a beautiful area. It gives you a great overlook of the canyon & the Perrine bridge it’s a beautiful area. If anyone is ever in Twin Falls I highly recommend taking a walk down the trail & checking it out you won’t regret it!

I go there all the time If you come into Twin Falls City and look to the east at a right angle you will see Knievel Hill which is where Evel made his failed jump. Everyone in my Idaho knows that story.

In my neighborhood growing up everybody was a baby Minnie Evel Knievel. We had sidewalks in front of our houses so we would set up wood ramp stacked up on cinder blocks and be Evel Knievel jumping our bikes

On September 1975 I attempted the same jump on a Huffy. And landed it

When we did show up and I began teaching him one of the first lessons that I showed him was hitting the jump correctly with momentum

I watched it as it happened. At Daytona Bike Week in the late 90s. I saw the rocket on display at Eve's store set up on Main St. Level was there as well.

One mistake in the narration, this is up stream from Hells Canyon not down stream. Hells Canyon is along the Oregon border and is the deepest canyon in N. America.
