This is the third in a video series aimed to give a tutorial on the popular Atmel AVR Atmega32 microcontroller. In this video the drivers for the programmer is downloaded and installed. Special consideration is made to revise the driver files for 64bit Windows 7 and Vista.

Patrick, I think it now working as it should. I was using the GND on the programmer for the LED. Once I disconnected everything is cool. Thanks once again for your well organised videos.

@Ahsen Asif yes, I haven't had a problem with that mcu.

Sure, take a look at the tutorials on powering the MCU on the playlist. All you need to do is connect a power source like batteries, wall adapter, solar panel, generator, etc. to the VCC and GND pins (rails).

@m4unot For mac compatibility, the AVR Pocket Programmer from Sparkfun may not be the best choice. Sparkfun recommends the use of this programmer from Digikey: ATAVRISP2-ND

@mYOzZyKaT Sure, you totally can just solder the six pin header directly to the cable, but I like having the 6 pin in tact when the uC will be on it's own PCB with a 6 pin standard header for in circuit programming. The home made board also pretty solid and reliable, easy to connect and disconnect.

You can use a couple of methods: LCD, or USART serial communication. Check out my USART and LCD videos to see how to do this, or go to the newbiehack website and use the search bar.

Thanks Patrick for replying. I have been watching your videos long before I ordered the MCU and I thought it was supposed to be straight forward. Actually I have no problem loading the program to the MCU but I cannot just get my LED to work. By the way, I tested the LED by connecting it to the VCC pin and it is lighting up and so it is working.However, I am getting another MCU and see what happens.

I followed your nice video on power sources and that is where I learnt to use the usb cable connected to a computer. Apparently, my programmer has a problem with the VCC line so I am drawing power from the laptop using a usb cable. However, when I program the MCU the LED is not coming on until I supply power to the faulty VCC on the programmer.

I'm planning on purchasing something alike here in Hungary. Probably the software you showed in a later tut should work fine with that too.

@yessrnet Well, I haven't tried it, but I'm sure it may be possible. I know it is possible after a bootloader is loaded onto the microcontroller first, but that may defeat the purpose.

Is there some print method I can use to see what is happening on MCU? I want to read what am getting from the IR receiver whn I press buttons on the remote control.
