One of my favourite JD songs ... and the title track from his June 1974 album - an album that topped the US and Canadian charts and even made #3 here on the UK album chart.

The first time I heard a John Denver song, I was in high school, barely 16. I was smitten. I loved his music and bought every album he made. When I had my son, I’d already picked out a name, Matthew, for a song John had on one of his albums. Well, 40+ years later, John has been gone a long time … cried when I heard about his untimely death … but I’m still a fan, listen to “my” music regularly, and my son proudly tells folks how he got his name. That man and his music has comforted me, inspired me, made me cry (Please Daddy Don’t Get Drunk this Christmas) (mine was an alcoholic too) and has had an impact on me throughout my life. If you can hear me from afar, thank you, John, for being such an integral part of my family and our lives. We’ll never forget you nor your music! 🇨🇦🖖🏻🇨🇦

I grew up on a 40 acre farm in southern Indiana in the 50's and 60's. We had a barn with cattle, pigs, a hay loft, chickens in the yard, and a 1 acre garden that my brother and I had to keep weed free before we were allowed to play. WWII was over, and the USA was on top of the world. Prosperity was everywhere. New homes, new cars. Anyone who wanted to work could get a good family supporting job. Our teachers prayed for us at the beginning of the school day. We stood and recited the Pledge of Allegiance to the American flag with our hands over our hearts. My Mom never worked outside of the home. She was always there when me, my brother, and my two sisters got home from school. My Dad supported our family with his labor at the Cummins Engine Company in Columbus, Indiana. There was no racial conflict, nor sexual perversion. -Hearing this sweet song this week brought on waves of nostalgia, and I'll admit a few tears. John Denver was a once in a lifetime talent. I hope you are in heaven sir!

When my wife was pregnant with my daughter I was selling insurance 2 counties away. I wouldn’t get home til after dark. Very sad and lonesome time. That song meant a lot to me. I dedicate it to my daughter Audrey. John Denver never knew it but he wrote it and sung it to my daughter.

We played this song as gthe final tribute to my mother at her internment in the cemetery across from the farm we worked so hard to own and possess as a family!

This song is just so good.
I'm old enough to have seen JD a half dozen times and it was always the best times.
I was reading about the plane crash and a few opinions think he went out that way, which makes it even sadder.
I miss your voice Mister Henry John Deutschendorf Jr....you left us too soon.

I cry when I hear this song. I lost my home and family in the late 70s. They were all taken in a fire 😢

As someone who grew up as a military kid, this song made me think of Grandmama's house, a place that was the same regardless of where I was living. It was like a long lost friend.

This song is like a time machine to gaze into the lives of my grandparents and even my parents growing up. No I wasn't there, but it makes me appreciate everything they have taught me. The middle part always gets me.

My dad put me on this song. I am glad he did. It's a beautiful song and some days, I will put this song on driving home from work after a long day.
