As the second coming of Christ, every religion has some sort of prophecy regarding the next one. To me Buddhism is essentially a self work thing, and hoping for something in the future could in a way hinder out progress regarding NOW. If we all have buddha nature, than we all have potential to be the buddhas and as Siddhartha before us and possible Maitreya in the future and we can do is follow the 8 fold path and understand the 4 noble truths.

The name Meitreya is just the word love... so the actual name might be metta... also, this current world we are living in is prophesied to have 5 ages. Buddha Gotama was the 4th Buddha. The one before him was Kassapa and the last one is Meitreya. There is a short wiki article on the Bodhisattvas... y'all might wanna check it out.
