If anyone is curious why is sin^2(x) + cos^2(x) = 1. Think about what sin and cos are, they are defined to be a relationship between a triangles side and hypotenuse. Namely we can rewrite above as (o/h)^2 + (a/h)^2 = 1. Now let’s times both sides by h^2 giving, o^2 + a^2 = h^2, but on the unit circle h = 1 so sqrt(o^2 + a^2) = 1. This is also the pythagorean theorem with h = 1 ( usually h is denied as c)
