I hate when people say "you only get one mother/ father" If you were abused by one or both of them, it's OK to disconnect if that's what you need and other people shouldn't try to convince you otherwise!

Forgiveness does not require letting abusive people back into your life

I absolutely believe Kate! 💯 The day after I turned 18 I was outta there, never to see or speak to "my mother" again. She passed 2 years ago March at 89. When I heard the news I felt absolutely nothing - not a single emotion. After a few minutes I turned to my husband and quietly said, "Well, at least she can't hurt anyone anymore, " and that was it. So, yes, I believe you, Kate.❤

The surgeons who did that amputation should be held accountable.

My husband is a retired surgeon. This makes me so, so angry and very sad. My husband did everything in his power to SAVE limbs…not amputate! Such a last resort measure! This “plastic Surgeon” should not be practicing medicine. 😢 Kate, you have such a wonderful attitude! You go Girl! ❤

WHEN will children's advocates start talking to and listening to the children WITHOUT the abuser present??

I have borderline personality disorder, i don’t think it’s controversial to say it’s a disorder. It IS my entire personality, my entire personality is a trauma response. that’s not my fault. but it IS my job to pick up the pieces and get help. having BPD doesn’t make you an abuser., abusing people makes you an abuser.

Kate, I am a 64 year old survivor of Munchausen’s too. My single mother is an emotionally abusive covert narcissist. It’s so painful when the person who is supposed to love you the most (your mother) is really the person who hurt you the most. Especially when she is incredibly charming and sweet to everyone. Nobody can see it. 😢

Any doctor that would amputate a perfectly good leg is a butcher, and should be sued for malpractice and his license taken away. This is downright disgusting!

Not only did Kate’s mom torture her, she tried to hurt Kate’s baby daughter! That level of malice is beyond comprehension.

I’m only half way through and I’m mind blown as to why an MD would perform an amputation without medical proof!!! Where are the medical records, CT scans, from their own doctors at Shriners?! Forget the referring docs, where is their diagnosis that supports a limb amputation?!? This is infuriating. We aren’t talking about a toenail here. Kate is absolutely 💯 in no way at fault for “allowing” this procedure to take place! She was a child! This poor girl. Everyone let you girls down! Omg I am so sorry this happened to you Kate 🙏🏻 😢

Please stay strong and do not capitulate to any one pressuring you to stay in contact with your mother. You are an amazing woman.

I think the "troubled teen" symptoms were actually self-protective instincts and reactions. That was a good thing.

I’m surprised she wasn’t removed from the home when she was 2 - so many “accidents”!! Definite child abuse. She had no advocate!!

I absolutely believe Kate's story.
Cruelty and judgment towards abuse survivors is unjustifiable.

This young woman is the type of person we need to hear from and maybe bring the doctors into more conversation with young patients

This young woman is someone who should talk to and listen to. I have a friend who suffered from the same sort of treatment by her mom. If you’re watching Kate and you should be so proud of yourself. I would love to speak with you one day and cover your story in detail. I did Gypsy Rose. But it is an extremely controversial case. I am so sorry for everything you have been through ❤

As someone who has cerebral palsy and whose parents fought against surgery in favour of braces and chose physical therapy instead of drugs this boggles my mind. Also just a reminder to viewers ambulatory wheelchair users exist. If you see someone get up out of wheelchair it doesn't automatically mean something's fishy
