the b58 makes sense for the platform, its an i6, plus developing a 3jz or new platform would cost toyota millions so they went with a platform that they already know works. As much as I wanted to see a new jz it just made sense considering the market when the car was released into the market

2jz is far superior..prove me wrong with facts…needing to do your bearings before you add power kills the b58 for me you can mod a stock 2jz for years before you need to open it up far less plastic far less sensors far less to go wrong and far cheaper to fix easier to fix and to top it off is proven at higher hp to handle those big numbers day in and day out but the b58 can’t do that they always need something but 2jz you can leave it for years before you even need to check (not fix something just checking) it’s not even a real argument..don’t get me wrong the b58 is respectable and can get to work but it’s not the modern 2jz if the 30+ yr old motor is still better by every metric
