Dame Daphne Sheldrick on Love, Life and Elephants

Показать описание
For more than four decades, Dame Daphne Sheldrick has devoted her life to rescuing orphaned animals in East Africa and preparing them for return to the wild on her elephant orphanage near Nairobi, Kenya. An extraordinary conservationist, Dame Daphne is the first person to successfully hand-rear newborn elephants, thanks in large part to the formula she perfected to mimic a mother elephant's milk. Her work is featured in the Museum's current IMAX feature, Born to Be Wild, playing now through June 30.

On May 8, 2012, Dame Daphne spoke at the Museum and discussed her book Love, Life, and Elephants: An African Love Story.

Rest in peace, Dame Daphne Sheldrick. You were an amazing woman who undertook what no one else would, and did it successfully. You truly did God's work with raising and rehabilitating all the orphaned elephants you've helped. You are truly an inspiration.

I just got to the part where Mrs. Sheldrick said about the elephants that "...they are just like us, but they are much better than us."  I couldn't agree more to that one simple statement!

Last night I watched My Wild Affair: The Elephant Who Loved too Much. Such a beautiful, heartbreaking story about Dame Daphne and baby Aisha. Daphne is such an amazing lady with an amazing life and a huge heart. Everyone that works with her to protect and nurture these majestic creatures deserve so much recognition too. Long may their work continue.

Oh dear mother of compassion! Compassion is an universal language and love in action. A life of patience, grit and relentless pursuit of selflessness for over 6 decades. The admiration and implicit trust of these many animals a fitting tribute to such a life of dedication!

She's such a wonderful, caring person who's managed to raise these beautiful animals with her dedication. Just a note....that little man stepping up to tell Dame Sheldrick how elephants don't have telepathy, though he knows nothing about it. What a fool.  I was so proud of her response and the way she handled it. She's not called a Dame for nothing. Fantastic foundation, incredible lady. May she live a very long life.

Extraordinary Lady. Superb booklaunch. Young children going to the microphone & asking her questions, with interest. An adult male who challenged Dame Sheldrick's comment about elephants using Telepathy & pointing out it's not magic. Her response was elegant, clarifying that its natural in the elephants and unused(neglected) in the humans. Wonderful! I feel humbled by her authenticity & achievements. The last question by the little girl "do humans make elephants sick?'

"What makes us think that we're superior to the animal kingsom? after all, we're only animals ourselves and not very successful ones in my opinion. If all the lights went out in the world and couldn't be turned back on, how many of us would be able to survive in the wild? we've stepped out of nature." She is 100% right.

What an absolutely amazing lady. Her husband may have started this but she, is the one to have taken this amazing work and run with it. I’m sure she would be very proud of her family who have continued and built on their wonderful work. God bless you Dame Daphne. ❤❤❤

Daphne is like angel sent from heaven ...and I'm not even religious person. She is so selfless, so rare, so determined and strong, the rest of us are the weaker ones.
