Anglerfish take the saying "A hole is a hole" to a whole new level

"When the anglerfish finds his soul mate, which for the record is the first female he comes across..."

Sounds like military guys

Half as Interesting's totally unrelated video today: "... Like asking Hank Green to excitedly explain how anglerfish reproduce."
SciShow, 5 hours later: Did someone say anglerfish mating?

And if we can say he lives at all, he lives until she dies,
And until that day, he literally never leaves her

"The deep sea dwelling Anglerfish never has to find a mate
.
They are always there together when it's time to procreate
.
See, one dark night a young male bites the female on her side,
And then slowly he becomes a sperm producing parasite
.
And if we can say he lives at all, he lives until she dies,
And until that day, he literally never leaves her side"

“If you do find that elusive soulmate in the vast, empty darkness you do not want anything getting between you.”

My inner goth/romantic is pleased with this metaphor for our existence

Given the sparsity of the population of the depths, its probably actually really hard for infections to spread - which probably helps with the whole "no traditional adaptive immunity" thing

Sometimes you really have to wonder how evolution transforms regular fish reproduction into this. Like, what are the processes that lead into this? It's intriguing.

Also, I like how they added how humans can possibly use these seemingly trivial facts for our benefits at the end.

Did...did Half As Interesting predict this episode? Other than the host not being Hank, they called this on today's episode.

See! This is why Vegeta doesn't like fusing with Goku! He's afraid it'll be permanent. 😂

0:45 "When the male finds the girl of his dreams, which, for the record, is the first one he can find" - I'm sure this hits home to some of us, more than we care to admit.

If we discovered their action of accepting foreign bodies it could help with anti rejection drugs for implants, from donated organs to pacemakers.
