Clock choke in judo and sambo.
It’s something that many people have strong opinions about. In this video I’ll show you a strangle hold I learned first. In our gym coach called it “run around”. It’s little easier to apply with a full gi.
Comment if you want to see strangle holds in Sambo.

Does Sambo need strangles?

================================================
================================================
Sambo is a versatile sport because it has large amount of techniques in standing position as well as on the ground. Why can't you throw an opponent who's equal or stronger opponent? There are two main reasons. First - you're setting up and doing the throw wrong, and the second you're predictable and everyone knows your moves. In both cases your technique is flawed and something has to be changed. All progressive MMA fighters are incorporating sambo submissions. It's easily explainable due to limited time on the ground ( 2-5 seconds to catch and another minute to complete ). Sambists research the fastest and most effective ways to finish for years. Why does everyone want to finish fast? It's an opportunity to finish in style and preserve your energy. I know the taste of quick finishes like no other. 25 years in sambo, 13 World Championships in which i earned 2 golds, 4 silvers, 1 bronze and most importantly 90% of my victories happened before regulation time expired. I spent 20000 hours

Chokes are important. You can find tough guys who will eat joint locks and just let their shit break. Chokes done right, you're going to sleep.

Every fighter needs everything that he can benefit from. Take whats efficient and leave whats inefficient for you.

Better to have strangles and not need them. Also it helps to defend them better.

Grappling arts are only grappling. We can compare certain forms of grappling. which is better? But if you look at how the world is evolving in these sports you realize the best form of grappling is one with every discipline combined. Better to be accepting of all techniques to learn its effectiveness and throw it away if it useless.Tradition is the death of innovation. Honestly i see a future where all grappling is under one umbrella just called grappling where every practice and technique has its merits and is considered. Grappling gyms are the future.

Chokes would make it a more complete sport, yes. Also you have ti actually get TO the choke, so even if it's more effective, someone would be guarding their neck more than their arm or leg for example.

I come from a Jiu-Jitsu background. Strangles are great submissions and for self defense. In the ADCC, the rear-naked choke, the triangle, and the guillotine are some of the most high-percentage subs.

Does Sambo NEED strangles? No. Strangles are surprisingly technical and difficult to learn to apply correctly/effectively. The strength and efficiency of Sambo as a grappling art arises out of the rule-system of the sport. Because Sambo devotes less or no time to strangles, and focuses proportionally more time on throws, take-downs, and joint-locks than, say, Jiu-Jitsu, the average Sambist is probably going to have a highly developed takedown-to-submission game. If you're learning Sambo for self-defense on the street, a game that is more narrowly focused on throws, pins, and armbars is very efficient.

And that's to say nothing of leglocks. Leglocks are a class of submissions that take a lot of time, devotion, and skill. Sambo obviously focuses on leglocks more than most arts historically have and is famous for them. Heel hooks and kneebars are also top submissions in the ADCC, and if you are really intent on disabling someone in self-defense, leglocks would be a good way to do it.

Chokes are another weapon within your arsenal.

Please, please, please, DON’T attempt to resuscitate an unconscious training partner by lifting their legs, instead, put them in the “recovery position”. Lifting legs is an old first-aid practice (sometimes still applied) to assist returning blood flow to the heart when cardiac arrest is the issue at hand. Additionally, lifting of the legs while the person is on their back could cause the person to swallow their tongue and then suffocate. If my opponent in a bjj tournament doesn’t tap and goes unconscious, I never let the ref lift the legs . . . way too dangerous!! Spread the word!

I personally don't think so, preserve the sport as is. There's other grappling arts that have strangles/chokes.
