Waves Destroy OB Pier and take down surfer

Monday the waves were so heavy they destroyed parts of the Ocean Beach pier in San Diego. There was one body border out there in bright orange. Then a surfer later came out to play in the waves. Two brave souls were out in the rough Ocean. The surfer caught a quick drop in and was taken out.

Saw waves breaking beyond the end of the OB pier in Dec '73. Only two guys out were Rollo and Spencer Marx. White water on top of pier, pier still open, lol

2 people out there one surfer and one boogie board, I loved when it was big, on one out there to give you a hard time, only fools and experienced people dare. Where are all the Kook callers, drop in criers, boogie board haters, at home sleeping in.

I used to live there in the late 70's. I would have been surfing a nice right reef break a few miles down the coast. Enough said.

I would simply paddle out climb up a post with my board, then jump off onto the flattest slab coming, even though I've only surfed

Wow really loved seeing this vid as it brings back many memories - thanks! After 16 wonderful years in San Diego, the wife (who is a native San Diegan and OB'er) and I finally got tired of paying ever-escalating property taxes beyond all of the other myriad state taxes - and bolted for Aberdeen, WA back in Feb 2020. Will always miss walking down the idyllic OB pier every Saturday and anticipating those incredible lobster tacos at the WOW Cafe as we watched the big sets move in from our always window table and slightly move the cafe as they passed under us. Where else can you get that kind of a unique experience? The lobster taco's have drastically increased in price from an amazingly low of $3.75 to now $8 but they are still well worth it as they really pack the lobster in them!!!

Ob pier always goes off in the winter. It’s intense. I think a few years back the waves damaged the pier.
