The fact DJI has owned a majority stake in Hasselblad since back in 2017 kind of takes the thunder out of all the "speculation" on whether "If" or "could" they release a medium format camera.

Honestly the biggest thing for me that is missing from medium format is the fast and reliable AF for anything other than studio work. They solve that and I’ll never buy a full frame for photography again. Love the medium format look

I'm surprised you didn't touch on the ronin 4D. That really shook the market like very few things I've seen. Everyone was talking about it for weeks! I'm sure that got Sony and other companies scrambling to get LIDAR AF and integrated gimbals, so I look forward to the new stuff DJI brings with their cameras!

DJI actually makes decent hardware so I'd be interested in what they have to offer. And because they don't have to rely on current hardware, they can really just make a modern smart camera. Imagine a mirrorless body with a phone-like UI.

I’m more interested, or let’s honestly say concerned, about the next Hasselblad X1D. I would really like to see Sony’s rumored, roadmapped (?), 200 mp sensor in that body, hopefully with as much auto-focus improvement as they could do, but obviously positioned entirely as a world class stills camera.

Personally, I prefer a camera for stills, and a video camera for video's, which is why I love to use my fully refurbished canon 50D, and why I haven't bought a modern Camera for years, for me it one tool for one job, I don't want a multitool camera.

If DJI were a publicly-traded company, I would buy stock in it. They have some of the most innovative products out there, think the Ronin 4D. I own several DJI products and enjoy using them all, and they all produce very good results.

DJI certainly has potential... potential to make cool and quality stuff, not to CRUSH the likes of Canon or Sony by a long shot but to offer a different line of toys for a different type of player. They seem to be putting a lot of plates in the air though, lets hope they can reign in their focus and get it all done before the plates start falling. They also have the potential to be a complete train wreck.

Why would you need a medium format camera? Just make low f-number lenses for cropped sensors!

Sorry, just because it slaps on the Hasselblad brand doesn't mean it is Hasselblad quality and even if it does, I am not paying more than Fuji GFX medium camera that is already well established with various lenses and support. Unless DJI is willing to come up with a $3000 dollar medium format to compete with Sony and Canon 35mm cameras, it will fail. Guarantee. It would be a waste of money to put money on the Hasselblad brand if there isn't any amazing offering to the well-informed Hasselblad clients (who take branding, quality, and national patriotism seriously). It is like Russia buying Tesla and NASA and claiming that they will be like their former self. Tony, you are such a butt kisser to DJI. Definitely, a good PR, as you are (for them).

Hasselblad selling to DJi should be considered a crime. What a shame to throw prestigious photography heritage down the shit hole

I said it before, camera manufacturers watch out for DJI, particularly when the Ronin 4d came out... they're extremely innovative (and agile as you said) and they're looking at it from a different angle. Who knows, this possible low price (relatively) medium format camera could go with a lower pixel count than the high end Hasselblad, to get better video performance (low light / rolling shutter), while still offering enough for full frame photo enthusiasts to get excited (particularly if the price is right). I'm excited to see what they're cooking up, also because it might shake the "other guys" awake! ;)

Put it this way, if they did they would need to up their customer & after sales support game. Best example is their current fiasco with the defective DJI FPV batteries being sold and how they are (not) handling it

Great content. Love the channel. Gotta boost that audio level. These videos consistently have lower audio than anything else I watch on YouTube. Anyone else getting this?

DJI bought Hasselblad right, so it's just Hasselblad rebranded, righr?

If they add sensor stabilization to a camera it would not fly on drones or nearly as well on their stabilizers. You can slap a stabilized sensor camera on a drone and get good results... Gyro based stabilization is the way of the markets for them. Also, don't forget their revolutionary wireless transmission work. Their fpv systems and the 4d transmission are game changers in the industry.

I just want someone to essentially slap a cell phone on the back of a real camera, so we can finally have mobile device-like functionality (user interface, wireless connectivity, etc) on a real camera. That is what's needed right now more than anything else in photography. Someone please merge a cell phone and a real camera (here's looking at you Sony). Enough of this 1995 stuff.

They already make an amazing all in one camera with gimbal you forgot to mention.

Tony, I think you're missing the industrial/enterprise drones that DJI makes. Their medium format camera very well could just be a ground camera complement to a future aerial survey medium format gimbal that is used for mapping and 3D modelling of entire cities. A consumer version might just come out alongside the enterprise product just for people to have and spread out the fixed costs on.
