Buying the right tools isn't always easy. These are the 7 best tools I don't regret buying. If I could go back and buy the right tool the first time, I would buy these sooner. While sadly I can't, hopefully this prevents you from making some of the same mistakes I did when it comes to tools. Some of these tools may work well for you if you're in a different industry, this is just my opinion from my experience.

Started out as an apprentice about 7 months ago, no one told me I’d pick up a tool buying addiction

It's crazy, I'm 65 and have a drawer of pliers and just got a pair of Knipex and cannot believe how good they are. Just love using them so versatile. Love them so much got a small pair one smooth, one with teeth and added a small light and combo driver in pouch and keep it in my truck door pocket and use it all the time. Never thought I would spend that much on pliers but they will outlast me!

Honestly, the Hart fast back folding utility knife with 4 driver bits is my FAVORITE knife. It’s only $10 but feels amazing.

Pliers wrench is one of the best evolution of this tool type. So useful. The only time I use adjustable is when I need put a bunch of weight

I also have the 376 and I highly recommend getting the silicone leads. The included ones are good enough but tangle up easily, try the silicone leads and you will never want to go back.

The m12 portaband is really handy as well for smaller jobs (under 1”). The light weight is really great especially if you have to make a lot of cuts.

Those adjustable knippex plier wrenches are also super useful as a mini press when you need to push something in a certain amount with even pressure. I use mine for scotchlok splices and pushing in threaded inserts.

I bought the pliers wrench, i haven't used it once. I've had it in the truck for years. Cobras always My go-to, even on rain-tight fittings.

The fiskars is nice but the Milwaukee fastback 6in1 is the without a doubt the king of pro edc. I use the Philips & flat head bits in a pinch almost as much as the utility blade

Those pliers wrenches are honestly my first grabbers for holding and loosening some fasteners. I do have the Knipex auto cobras but that’s more for serious loosening due to their bite force. Any time I’m doing hydraulics or pneumatic work, my pliers wrenches are there for the job.

I tend to lean towards the beeping voltage detector, because you can use it to trace or to tell when the breaker that you are flipping off is the one you need for that circuit.

Yes, the Knipex pliers wrench is the German answer to the adjustable wrench 😁 Good video 👍

Fluke 376fc the fc style is a huge thing for recording stuff when your away from the panel…. I can amp clamp and record on my phone to see spikes on the circuit or see what’s drawing the most when away

WIHA NCVT is my preferred for pocket carry. Indicates you low or high voltage automatically which is handy if you work with 3 phase 480 often.

The klein pen tester is silent if you long press the button.

Pen testers need audible beeping so you can test from a distance or another room (if Resi). A vibrating pen tester is useless on a jobsite where there's a ton of machinery vibrating the area. But that's my take on what a pen tester should give a sparky

Love the knipex cobra smooth jaw, as a heating engineer tightening and loosening nuts feels like my life, I have a 180mm (7”) set and they sit in my pocket and they are used to death, I detest adjustable spanner’s

GREAT overview! Have you ever tried the 378FC (or other Fluke meters/clamps specifically w/ Field Sense) and if so, what are your thoughts on that feature? Thanks!

I have one of those tool bags they are the truth. If you are student in a trade/tech school they will give you a discount on their bags
