Things took a shocking turn in August 2023 when it was revealed that Michael Oher filed a lawsuit claiming, among other things, that Sean Touhy and Leigh Anne Touhy never adopted him like the movie depicted. Rather they manipulated him into giving them power of Conservatorship over him just after he turned 18.

Turns out that he is lying. In 2011, in his book, he wrote about the conservitorship.

If someone had taken me out of abject poverty and by their actions, love and support, without physical, emotional or psychological abuse, I became rich and famous, I would be eternally grateful and feel blessed beyond all understanding. The Touhys were well-off and thriving BEFORE they met Michael. They didn’t need his money nor his help in any way. Vice versa is true. He needed them. They didn’t need him.

And of course the Tuoy's proved in court that Oher was treated fairly from a financial standpoint with the agreement that was made. It really is true that no good deed goes unpunished.

The Tuohys were already filthy rich. They didn't need his money.
The movie NEVER claims they adopted him.
Oher clearly stated IN HIS OWN BOOK that the Tuohys DIDN'T adopt him.
They suggested conservatorship to PROTECT HIM from the vultures that they KNEW were circling him.
A social worker said they could establish a conservatorship of Michael WITHOUT his crack-addicted mother's permission.
The Tuohys refused. Leigh Anne located her and Leigh Anne visited her and got her permission to obtain conservatorship over Michael. She even attended the legal ceremony that awarded the Tuohys conservatorship.
I don't what happened to his money, but Michael Oher has been trying to shake the Touhys down for YEARS.
Oher admitted in a podcast that the actor who played him INCREASED his social cred, taking it from a 3 or 4 before the movie, up to a 9 or 10!

The movie is a artistic depiction of Michael Oher's life. Meaning they took his life and turned into a 2 hour movie. The ending took artistic liberties to end the story on a good note with ease. Explaining the Conservatorship would have been complex and did not meet the needs of the movie. The Touhy family chose not to drag Michael Oher through the mud in an effort to keep his good name. Left with no other choices, they have provided the court with documentation regarding the claims of Michael Oher. He has attempted to shake down the Touhy family for years because he has blown most if not all of the money he earned in the NFL. He lied about the so-called adoption and the conservatorship with evidence noted in his own account of the events in his own book. This is so sad because he is destroying the relationship he had with the Touhy family. The Touhy never controlled Michael Oher's finances.

Honestly, he needs to break free from them controlling his business deals. He is a grown capable man! If they helped him out of the goodness of their heart, then that's wonderful. If they are using his name for money, shame on them!!!

No good deed goes unpunished. Maybe look into WHY Oher is doing this now. The movie also NEVER says he was adopted, they ask him if he’d like them to be his legal guardians- exactly what he’s describing. Even in the books, adoption is NEVER claimed by either party.

BUT they DID give him a roof over his head, pay for private school AND tutoring, clothed him, fed him, they DID buy him a brand new truck- two in fact after the first one was wrecked so he could drive home from college, they continued to pay for private tutoring throughout college among the million other expenses accrued by children.

They never took money FROM him, just for the management fee- which like it or not, would’ve went to someone else if not to them and at a much higher percentage and money from the story and opportunities that came from that. Not FROM him.

Like it or not, it’s THEIR story too . Him and his mother have recently reunited in the last few years as well as him getting married. So ask yourselves where this has come from because up until those two events happened, he was still very close with the family.

No good deed goes unpunished. If they hadn’t of taken him in, he wouldn’t be in the NFL despite what people say. He may of always had the talent but he didn’t have the OPPORTUNITY- until they took him in and made it possible. He would have some shit job making minimum wage and that’s the truth. But people don’t want to tell the truth bc they want to demonize these people.

How the movie and book never once said adoption. They said legal guardian. In his own book 10 years ago, he used the word conservatorship. The proceeds received from the movie was split evenly 5 ways. The family has more money, has always had more money than him even while playing in the NFL. This is a man that spent all his money and coming after people the people thar helped him.
