John 10:10 is not talking about the devil. Jesus was talking about the wicked Jews. He was contrasting them with himself- who is the true Shepard. He was referencing to the prophecy of Ezekiel 34. Those wicked Jews in Christ's time were the wicked shepherds of Israel who would eventually kill him and then persecute the church. The book of Acts is full the wicked Jews trying to kill, steal and destroy the work of the Church. They were the thieves, but Christ is the true shepherd. John 10 is part of the fulfillment of Ezekiel 34.
