It’s nice that the man showed you or told you how tp paint your bird house. That help has gone away. You’re lucky if you can get an employee to help you find what you’re looking for. These box stores where I live did not know what shallac is. I called a hardware store north of me in the foothills, they said it will be on the counter when I get there. Knowledge and pride is not available anymore in these stores. Mom and pops when you can find them is the best. Scoutcrafter you really provide knowledge and you present it well. Thank You

Never lose those paint cans - even if the paint has to go sometime. What a really great thing to be as grounded to your community as you are.

Excellent video, I used to seal plaster moulds with shellac 30 years ago, just seen the latest prices and wow, you're not kidding the price has gone up

Son of a gun. I never knew in all my years this could be used as a primer. That's pretty cool.

It was also used to finish brass parts. Though this usually had colorants in it. Im currently making some based on a recipe from around 1900, in order to restore a vintage camera.

Im using Curcumin and Bixin as my colorents.

Shellac is wonderful!
I have only recently discovered it (apart from a failed episode in high school) and it is great.
It is a new venture to me and I love it

Great stuff I use it all the time. Never used it on metal before, but I'm definitely going to try it out. Great videos thanks.

Shellac is great stuff. All of my wood work is finished with shellac, and I buy the flakes. The story about the paint store and old paint cans were great.

Another great video. I was told to put shellac on the knots of pine before painting a light color to avoid a dark spots.

Years ago here in Philadelphia there used to be a public TV show about furniture restoration called Furniture On The Mend hosted by Ed Feldman and Joe L’Erario. I don't know how many other PBS stations picked it up but at least a few did. Ed and Joe used shellac as a sanding sealer at least once a show and two or three times explained about things like French polishing, pound cut and where shellac came from. I think they even broke up and dissolved some old 78 rpm shellac and candle black records to make black shellac. Controlling the evenness and depth of a stain by varying the amount of shellac sealer was one amazingly useful lesson they taught me that I'll never forget.
