One statics problem to rule them all,
One statics problem to find them,
One statics problem to bring them all,
And in the statics bind them...

At what angle will the ladder slip?
How far up the ladder can the person climb before the ladder slips?
How hard is the wall pushing on the ladder?
How much friction is between the ladder and the ground?
What is the required coefficient of friction between the ladder and the ground?

This example is set up to cover all of the versions of this problem which are commonly asked. We set up an equation that relates all of the variables at 'work' in the problem to eachother. That solution can be rearranged to solve for the angle between the ladder and the ground as well as the friction required to keep the ladder from slipping.

This video also takes a look at the most important part of a ladder, and that is why some people (myself included) have kids. More on that later.

I don't usually comment, but you are an actual lifesaver. You explained very well and it helped me with a homework assignment I was having trouble with. Thank you!

Why no comments ):. Statics is very useful in understanding how one of the forces in unified field theory works. Gravity. Underrated. I'm only a sixth grader, and I understand what this says, since I have some background on statics and equilibrium net charges when takin Electromagnetism and Engineering Mechanics. Underrated.
