I believe Xbox only further damaged their brand with Gamepass. They will never have the sales the other consoles get. They can only rely on high gamepass subs at this point. They put themselves in a corner.

Game Pass is problematic for large, AAA releases. Spencer tried to say Redfall was a $70 game. Yes, technically it's being sold for $70. But really, it's Game Pass trash. I'd like to know how many people bought Redfall for $70 instead of just paying for it on Game Pass.

I said it along time ago-Day and Date AAA games into any Subscription service was (and still is) an absolutely terrible decision!!!!

Some very good points. Agree that perhaps Gamepass and other sub services have led to these problems. I'm not into subscription services myself, I prefer to 'own' games which is of course, not really a thing with digital purchases anyway. I won't pay full price for a game unless it's something I REALLY want. am happy to wait for sales most of the time, plus there is also the games being rushed out full of bugs so that's another reason to wait. I do like to support the indies when I can though, bought Deliver Us Mars and will be buying the new oxenfree at launch. But yeah it's an expensive hobby and sub services are certainly a way to make them more affordable... but at what cost?

Games sell badly on Microsoft machines, making games on the s are a huge pain. They want to move forward not backwards.

This two aspect combined are extremely bad for any 3rd party studio.

I imagine it costs more to develop a port on the Series X, because you have the added stress of developing for the Series S, all while the sales are usually awful on the Xbox compared to PS5 and PC

Being someone that started off with a series S, you only get “okay” performance, but in terms of all the new games that release, it really does struggle quite a bit and the games look pretty shit compared to the X and ps5. Not to mention, the games run slightly better on the ps5 compared the the series X based off of the digital foundry reviews I’ve seen over time. I got a ps5 a couple months ago and it’s been such a game changer. You get more “quality” games, they look and play better, more 3rd party support, just MORE. The only reason why i got the series S before was because money was tight and i got it from the reward system at my work. I didn’t even pay for the thing. Ever since Redfall came out, i just turned my series S into a streaming machine for Netflix and YouTube. I purchased the Mario movie on it too. Luckily I didn’t invest much in it before moving to ps5, it was mainly my Elden Ring machine for a bit. I don’t even play Elden Ring on it anymore though because I cancelled my “mediocre pass” subscription, meaning I can’t play online. I’m enjoying ps+ alot considering how alot of the games on that service are new to me. Literally no reason to buy a xbox.

What these crazy fanboys don’t understand when they’re crying for more games is, for every platform there is significant play testing needed, even with small independent games. Devs need dozens of players at every point in the game so they can try to break the game somehow, and the money it costs increases exponentially the bigger the game becomes. How can they justify this kind of spending if they don’t even sell many copies? I have always been against game-pass because if the industry turns this way game ownership will be a thing of the past, why would they sell it to you when they can just charge you for access, this also removes your ability to speak with your wallet. I prefer the old model where they give me a gameplay trailer, if it looks good I buy.

I really want the Xbox showcase to be something special at this point, as my Series X gets very little use now. I haven’t enjoyed a first party Xbox game since Forza Horizon 5, I can’t be arsed with subscription services, and I buy virtually all my third party games on PS5 as the dualsense is just so much nicer to use than the Xbox controller, at least in my opinion. I bought the Series X mostly for the Fable reboot and Avowed, so hoping to see both of those on Sunday. Starfield needs to do a hell of a lot to convince me after its first showing, so I’m sceptical at best about that one. I reckon the new Forza Motorsport could be great, but they really need to revamp the career mode from previous titles. I guess we’ll see on Sunday, but I’m hoping for this to be a good showcase, as I was definitely underwhelmed with the Playstation one. Having said that, Final Fantasy 16 is right around the corner and that’s a day one for me.

I think it’s only gonna get worse for Xbox, I think they’re going to lose even more third-party support. I’m in NYC and I’m seeing A lot of mom and pop game stores are starting to not even carry Xbox games and if they do they barely order any. Games just don’t sell on Xbox I have a friend that has an X he has not purchased one game this generation.

I would love to see some big surprises and just to create some excitement since it's still quiet overall in gaming terms. I have no interest in starfield so some new IP and big games from both Xbox showcase and the summer gig. I miss the days of proper excited over games and it can return. I'm sure sony will bring it once the deal probably goes thro for Microsoft and then the focus can return to trying to out do each other and compete. The future is bright
