Don't Provoke The Lion | Devotional | Proverbs 20:2

Показать описание
The terror of a king is like the growling of a lion; whoever provokes him to anger forfeits his life. — Proverbs 20:2
We live in a time when the terror of kings is becoming emboldened. And the bad part of this is their terror will only increase because they can't stop once they start.
Their terror is like the roar of a lion. It is something heard for miles on a calm day. The sound is iconic. It's deafening when heard nearby. It will send a rush of adrenaline up and down the human body. And the roar accomplishes just one goal — it signals a boundary. And so does the terror of a king — it signals a boundary.
But some people lack the reason to respect boundaries. They dare to provoke someone on the other side without weighing the costs in a given situation. When it comes to provoking and angering a lion, or a king, there is only one result — we put our lives at risk because their terror will function on instinct with little concern for the other person.
Thus the reason a godly man weighs the boundaries of every person he encounters. He considers them with his wife. With his children. With a boss or his colleagues. With a friend or a relative. This man listens for their boundaries and heeds their signal.
Today, take a little time to measure the boundaries in your relationships. Measure them and respect them. And you will live a life of much less tension. It's worth it. It results in living a more peaceful life than you do right now.
ASK THIS: Who is a person that disrespects your boundaries? And whose boundaries do you need to respect?
DO THIS: Listen and proceed with care.
PRAY THIS: God, show me where I don't have boundaries, and may I listen for those others may have.
PLAY THIS: Ryan Stevenson — No Matter What.
