Are we able to leave the Lacie external hard drive plugged in and running all the time? could it overheat? I set it up on my new iMac M3. It is partitioned to be half storage, and the other half for Time Machine back up. only it seems to remain on. Before setting it up in this manner, it would only come on when backing up. . . . Will someone please assist me with this question? Thank you.

do i have to format it on Disk Utility? i see it shows the actual orange LaCie hard drive on the desktop and after you format it it changes. how can i keep the original image?
