Hear from mom, Sam, about her daughter Katie's journey through vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) diagnosis, and treatment with Deflux. After Katie suffered recurrent UTIs, back-to-back, Sam sought out a VUR specialist, Board-Certified Pediatric Urologist Dr. Andrew Kirsch in Atlanta. At that time, Katie was diagnosed with VUR (or urinary reflux), and together, Dr. Kirsch and the family decided that Deflux was the right option for Katie.

If your child has VUR or urinary reflux, there is good news: you have options.

Having a child with vesicoureteral reflux (VUR), also known as urinary reflux, can be a frustrating experience for everyone involved. VUR in children is a condition in which urine from the bladder backs up into the ureters and kidney. This can happen in one or both sides. Some children are born with VUR. It results when the connection between the bladder and the ureter is not normal. Untreated VUR can lead to further complications such as renal scarring and permanent kidney damage that can lead to poor kidney function and high blood pressure later in life, so it is important to talk with your doctor about your treatment options.

Your child is one of the 1% with this urinary condition, so you may not know who you can talk to about VUR. Learning about vesicoureteral reflux, how it affects your child and VUR treatments can be intimidating.

Get the facts—about VUR, how it’s treated, definitions of common VUR terms, and more. Armed with information, you can work with your doctor to make the best decision for your child.

my granddaughter had vur about 15 months. was on antibiotics when they thought she outgrew it they stopped meds. however vur returned. she ended up open surgery both kidneys. the reflux surgery failed so she had open surgeries at 7 years of age. she is now 19 and having complications again. dr has referred her back to see her kidney dr. thinks reflux is happening again. told her more surgery may be necessary. is there a possible chance she could have outgrown the surgery and could need it all over again.

Hi, my daughter was born with an ectopic ureter and has VUR. We’re looking into surgery to correct this. Would you know if DEFLUX is an option for a child with VUR on an ectopic ureter ?
