Do you see posts or YouTube videos with “stop saying” or “advanced English vs. Basic English”? Not only that these suggestions are potentially harmful, they’re also misleading. You are very unlikely to hear people actually using these so called ‘advanced’ words in spoken English. If anything, they might make people raise an eyebrow...

Thank you so much for this Hadar. For some reason, a lot of those "advanced English" videos have been popping up on my feed recently. They subconsciously made me feel insecure about my English, even though I know that I have a high proficiency level after years of immersion

I was initially wondering why you were teaching “basic” and “advanced” English, but I eventually understood the message.😄

In my experience it's unuseful to learn these words and constructions. The average Joe doesn't read and doesn't hang out with erudites or even educated people. I'm talking about younger people like those who drop the verb be "You wrong". I remember one time I tried to seem advanced by using an advanced word just to get as an answer "Hey dude, speak American". That's the reality and how native speakers really are... just watch those videos where they're asked general knowledge questions and young people don't know a thing.

I stopped watching Marina cause she idealizes native speakers making you feel bad for not beeing one. I realised she is just parrotting native speakers and demonizing little mistakes that are inevitable and crucial to make progress.
