How To Transfer Money Between Accounts in Quicken

This video will show you the correct way to transfer money between accounts so you make only one entry and the transactions show up in both accounts WITHOUT also showing as an expense. All you want to do is move money, you do not want to record an expense or an income transaction. You would need this for examples such as these:

1- Move money from your checking account to your savings account.
2- Transfer money to a credit card account to pay the bill. You don't want to expense this because the individual transactions on your credit card have already been expensed.
Note: If you are not expensing individual transactions, for example, you are not using the web transaction downloads and you are not tracking individual transactions, you may want to expense the transfer.
3- Transfer money from your savings account to your checking account.

Thank you for the explanation which was very helpful - fortunately this was the first YouTube video I watched to resolve the same issue you describe. For me the issue was created by the way Quicken automatically assigned the categories (incorrectly in the case of transfers). Appreciate your time to post this!

I watched this because I set up an account in Quicken for my Honda auto loan. I kept wondering how to link the payment from my checking account to the auto loan account.... I think your video is going to help get me there... I think. Only question I have is, the money is both a transfer and an expense that should be tracked. May still end up entering them separately. Thank you for your video. I so want to start using Quicken again, but I'm having trouble getting started.

I have about 20 accounts I transfer between. For example, mortgage payments go to reduce my mortgage account, etc.. It's messy but it works

Thanks for video! Saw that you were able to display category list. Did not realize you could do that, will have to check that out. Can manage categories better. Also I have been putting in TXFR in check number field for transfer transactions. Not sure if that makes a difference.
