I also use a dehumidifier, but it’s best to ALSO stop moist air from the shower and bath getting into the house by using a powerful fan and opening a window, don’t over boil kettles, minimise steam from cooking, and keep windows open anytime you are creating moisture in the house.

Whatever moisture is left after doing the above, can be sucked up with the dehumidifier.

Im from the Caribbean....
I recently bought a portable ac unit that has the dehumidifier built in... I only used the humidifier for the 1st time a few days ago, and i was amazed how much it helped with the air quality and the cooling without having to run the ac compressor... will consider getting a humidifier for my living room

If you are a landlord, I would strongly recommend buying a large dehumidifier and specify they have it on just on a low automatic setting in the living area. Show them how to empty it and how it'll protect not only their clothes and furniture, but their health as well.

EDIT : IT DIED!

Year on here too! By far our best purchase of 2023...Infact, it's up there with one of the best buys we have ever made, for all the same reasons as you mentioned...we have also found it an absolute god send not having to be karcher windovaccing our soaking windows most winter mornings, thing of the past too now!
We run ours without the filter, which we found makes the machine run a fair bit quieter, and allows it to pull more moisture through more quickly & easily, which inturn turns the machine off more regular once it hits our 50% humidity setting quicker, which inturn saves a bit of life in the machine, and of course some running costs in savings per day..
In the beginging our house was sat around the 80% mark the first week or 2, took around 3 months of being constantly on to dry the fabric of the house & its furnishings to consistently be sat around the nice 50-60% humidity it is now. Our humidity now fluctuates between 47-55%, ( well below mould prob area) & this is with us turning off the machine around midnight for circa 8 hours every night before we start it up again next morning to see its risen to maybe 57 or 58% overnight, Only takes an hour or so for that to be back down to our usual 50 again ..That 8hrs per day over a month deffo drives down running costs and of course the wear and tear to the machine, so if you can get away with it, do it, , , trial and error for a few months. Deffo cost less to run than we feared it would..we have this placed at the top of our stairs near our bedroom, can confirm, that it is deffo a light noise distraction if you leave it on overnight & are a lightish sleeper.

The best thing you will ever purchase my wife uses it to dry clothing in the bathroom in the winter, we use it in the bedroom to dry out the wardrobes for clothing, it is much cheaper to run than any heater or tumble dryer and much better, just buy one. We live in England and wintertime we would not be without it.
Looking at your picture of drying clothes, put your Meaco under your clothes horse and the hot dry air that blows out will dry the cloths much quicker, that is what my wife does, our Meaco dehumidifier is now 6 years old and is still working well.

We have two of the old 12l ones (white with green accents). One upstairs and one downstairs. Both on Tapo smart plugs.
The downstairs one runs at night when we are asleep and the upstairs one when we get up (lots of breathing at night and excess steam from the shower) so seems the best time to run it.
When we first got them I was amazed at how much water they were extracting, it just didn't seem real. How could a room hold so much water!
Plus I don't have to run around the house with the window vac every morning vacing the windows.

Wow you live in a fish tank, I would would retrofit the unit with a hose to stop having to drain the tank all the time. That is how I have mine setup but it rarely runs. Wauconda IL. I think I have a Bosch unit which is made of metal.

I was pretty impressed by these humidifiers (Meaco Arete) after seeing several reviews on various channels. Even though they seem to have had a US presence for an unknown period based on a Meaco US web site, when I Google for them on shopping, it appears nobody has them. Not sure if Meaco pulled up stakes in the US, or there is a supply bottle neck. Are they still available in UK and Europe?

Thank you!
Summers where I live, the heat index usually gets up to 118 degrees F. (48-ish degrees C) with 90% plus humidity. This helped, I don't usually comment but I felt I needed to, thanks brother! 💯💯

When I'm not home I have a whole house to humidifier that I leave on as it's so much cheaper to run than it is to run an AC. I don't need my house like a freezer I just need the moisture out of it. No more than 45%.

Can I ask you, as you have a 12 and an 18, I have a 25 and was wondering about getting a 12 for nighttime use? Is it quieter than the big one? I need it to go for 24 hours.
Thanks

Hi dad delivers! We have a dehumidifier in our old airing cupboard to dry clothes, use an old cot side strung up, clothes on hangers. works amazingly quickly in a small cupboard. My issue is my house being freezing. I have done lots of insulation bits this year but the cold is coming from the front of the house now mainly. I was going to pull out the dishwasher and spray foam behind the kitchen cupboards that back onto the outside wall, honestly opening a kitchen cupboard you get a big freezing breeze 7coming in! But should I if it might cause mold??
