The true story of an Israeli military operation to free hostages at Entebbe Airport in Uganda, on July 4, 1976. The portrayal of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin was Peter Finch's final performance; he died five days after the film's release.

An Air France flight is hijacked by the P.F.L.P. The plane has about one hundred Jewish passengers. The plane is grounded in Uganda. Israelis would not negotiate. This movie then shows how less than five hundred soldiers actually flew so far and rescued the passengers in one of the most successful military operations in history. The only casualty for Israeli soldiers was Lieutenant Colonel Yonatan "Yonni" Netanyahu.

It was first aired on January 9th 1977 as an NBC television film directed by Star Wars legend Irvin Kershner. For education, entertainment, enlightenment and inspiration. We hope you enjoy!

It's a great and inspiring to see that how to act at the time of crisis. We all in India salute to this great nation, surrounded by monsters. From the time immemorial the Jews have suffered immensely in almost all the countries, except India. You all can treat India as your second home, we will never let you down.

I can't stop smiling and at the same time, being overwhelmingly surprise by such a feat by Israeli Commandos. For me, it's the greatest of all rescue mission in history. I stand with IDF.

I remember this hijacking, I was in the U.S. Army when it happened. I was so pleased with Israel for deciding on the rescue and its success.

I remember as a little boy when it happened. By then I was staying with my father at likoni in Mombasa, Kenya, close to the Indian Ocean. The Israel plane passed through Mombasa very low to the sea headed to Uganda. They refuelled in Kenya moments after rescuing their hostages on their way back home. People who witnessed it Said the plane was just flying close on land. President Kenyatta had close ties with Israel at that time. Which means he allowed them to pass through the territory. Then they flew very low on lake Victoria and emerged up to land in Entebbe. It was a swift calculated mission. Fisher men in Indian Ocean and lake Victoria wondered and mused over the low flying monster like plane that passed by very swiftly with a somehow deafening but soft sound. Later on to hear in the news that Israel commandos had raided Uganda. Wow, it's a memorable story.

When the planes returned home they were at their most vulnerable. Suddenly two fighters approached. Over the radio the planes heard "this is the Israeli Air Force. We are here to accompany you home." And for the first time the rescue team was able to relax. Over the radio their heard a popular song "Small country slips out of trouble."

Both this film and the simultaneous release victory at Entebbe are nearly impossible to find since neither one was ever released on digital media. Thank you very much for this.

Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu's brother, Jonathan "Yoni" Netanyahu, was the only Israeli commando killed during this raid. RIP Lt. Col. Netanyahu

It's very good to see a lot of famous actors in one movie such as Charles Bronson, John Saxon, Jack Warden, Rober Loggia, Martin Balsam, James Woods, John Finch, Horst Buchholtz, Stephen Macht etc....

The turmoil in the Middle East brought me here, but as I rewatched this film I have to throw out Props to Yaphet Kotto because he truly brought out the unhinged nature of Idi Amin brilliantly, The horror these people went through, to find themselves face to face with that unhinged man. Yaphet brought out the silent sinister mind working as he spoke to hostages . Very underrated movie .

I recall, unknowingly at the time, the night of July 4th, 1976, enjoying my self around a warm scout campfire in southern Missouri. I watched this on prime time TV and have watched it, maybe 20 times over the years. It’s one of the greatest made for television movies of all time.
