Sometimes the most simple songs are the best ones.

My brother played this song so many times in my life that I was able to learn the song by watching his hands closely. He was 22 years old when he passed, I was 15.
I turned 22 this year.
I continue to play this song in his memory knowing that he taught me everything I know.
Wherever you are, thank you for everything you gave to me.

One rainy day my neighbor played this song, not knowing I was listening, and I don't really know who she is but this was the moment I fell in love with the piano and now I am finally able to play this beautiful song by heard. This means so much for me.

Little fun fact that happened with YouTube's random url algorithm, the ID starts with Pax, which in Latin means "peace", this couldn't have happened on a better video!

"Comptine d’un autre été: L’après-midi" translating to "Nursery rhyme of another summer: The afternoon.", from the film Amelie, contains arguably the most well known left-hand ostinato in the entire piano repertoire. It's hard not to feel relaxed when listening to this piece, and in this particularly stressful time, is a nice welcome change.

This piece has a very special meaning to me. When my wonderfull and special-needs niece died, 15 years ago, she was only 18 years old.
I was so sad after her death, that I wrote and recorded a song in her memory. I had been deeply involved in her life since birth, and often stayed at their house or in hospital with her to let my brother and sister in law get some time to themself and rest. Special-needs children needs 24/7 care. But having one in your life is something so special. They make your heart feel like crushed velvet. Crushed in the sence that you are sad and devastated that they have to suffer through so many hardships. And like velvet, because the love and care you give them is rewarded ten-fold. Those of you who know someone, or is in a situation like that knows exactly what I am saying.

So when she died I became a bit...empty. I needed to honor her in some way. So I wrote special lyrics to Comptine d'un autre été and used Audacity to record the song. I still have the file on my computer, and it is obvious that I was a mix of sad and happy when I performed it. Sad that her life ended so early, but happy that I could make a special song for her, celebrating her life - knowing we had given her all the love she deserved throughout her life - however short it was.

I hope one day I can play it to my sister in law, but she is not strong enough to hear it yet unfortunately. She has been very affected by this as it was a situation that went on for so many years. But when she is ready to hear it, I will sit down with her, hold her hand and let her hear the song of her precious daughters life.
I hope that day will come soon....

That's music.

Nobody understands but everyone feels it.

Tip: if you try to study this, first learn rh and lh separately. It's easier to learn the piece if you don't combine the hand positions in your head, but play them as two separate pieces (because of the different tempo).
Bonus tip: Don't think too much when you play the hands. Just play them. Don't think at all, actually. Lh is just repeating the same measure again and again.

For me, this is the most beautiful piano music in the world at intermediate piano level. Every note is just right.

This is called real music. Nothing in the world releases and catches you the way like music does. Feelings occur out of nowhere. You could be the happiest person on earth, but the next moment you're sad and depressed. This is what makes music great. Sharing a story without even saying words. You can't describe it but you feel it

I am so happy.... you have no idea. I stopped learning in grade 3 conservatory at the age of 8 because my parents couldn't afford to get me a full size keyboard at the time. I heard this song over 5 years ago for the first time and almost cried at the fact that I would never be able to play. For me, learning sheet music is very difficult and not intuitive.

I literally got my first keyboard, full size with weighted keys in 2019. I barely play. I picked this up last year and learned the left hand and gave up thinking it was beyond my skills.

Yesterday after a very stressful week, I somehow went to the keyboard and started playing some notes from memory, opened this video, and now today I know the whole song!!!

This is a big deal for me, thank you so much. I have a lot of practice to make it sound good, but I can play it!!
