I love it that you do this. Our climates are similar enough that this gives me confidence about choosing varieties to grow. So looking forward to growing season!

Thanks Ross, for the detail in these varieties. I really appreciate your time and energy you put into your podcasts. 💟

Thank you for your reasonings. It is totally right that the best performing figs would have the best chance to taste at their best. Then comes preference of flavors. I'm just getting into finally getting a fig plant that Ive put off for years for various reasons. And your videos have helped me get an idea for caring for and choosing a variety or two or three to try for my area... 7(7a) in CT. Thank you

Hey Ross, longtime. I just lost my avocado and mango tree and I got bummed out and stopped uploading and checking vids. But life goes on, picked up a new avocado AND... I got a violette de bordoux so now I'm up to TWO fig trees. Woohoo!! Here it begins... next will be a black madeira most likely. Hope all is well.

Hi Ross, have you grown all of these in the ground here, or only in pots that you bring in for the winter? I have room for 5 fig trees here in Hatfield, not far from you. I plan on planting them permanently on a south wall.

Hi Ross: I see you have Smith in your list. I read in a nursery information that it was good up to USDA Zone 8. Do you have this variety in the ground or on pot. If on the ground, do you protect the tree from the Winter colds? I bough some cuttings, and fine out after the fact that was tolerant to zone 8; I'm in zone 7b. For now I'm planning in keep it on a pot and place it inside my greenhouse during the Winter. I-258 also shows up to zone 8, do you have any problems with this variety?

Down here in south mississippi 8b black madeira does not grow very well, colonial lipmans black cross or a smith are some of the best for my climate

As you request on your Facebook page, I am asking my question here on YouTube.
The photos regarding the mystery fig are posted on facebook named - Lets Get Figgy (no apostrophe)
I understand that from the leaves alone it is difficult to determine the possibilities of a figs origin. That being said, the leaves are very firm and a bit rough to the touch. The back side have a well defined and predominate venation pattern. The owner of the tree that these cuttings came from, was not able to share much information regarding the characteristics of the figs other than "thay grow form green to yellowish green and then fall off when they are ripe", as he puts it : )

Hey Ross, on your spreadsheet, do you consider your "runners up" better than your "keepers" or is it the other way around?

I guess this is for professional fig growers? I wish he'd just show the figs and not something akin to a spreadsheet. I loved his tomato tasting. That's more apt for a youtube platform.still I do watch. I'm just starting out. Good cheer
