Cleaning a coin is bad. But if you do it the right way even PCGS won't notice. A coin dealer on YouTube got some Morgan dollars and cleaned them all, all but 2 came back between ms-63 - ms-65. Only 2 of them came back as genuine but cleaned. I was impressed by this experiment. So technically if you do it correctly it won't ruin your coin.

I recently found a a 1977 D quarter out metal detecting. I immediately noticed that there was something different about the composition of the coin... which led me to check with JB coin if there were any information about it. Well, it turns out after placing it on the scale - it weighs 5.7 g... and in better shape than the one showcased in this video... and better yet it is uncleaned.

I have come across so many of these quarters and now I should start weighing them for sure thanks JB

Hopefully, maybe a few, maybe. I've always weighed for transitional silver or copper coins. It's fun to search anyways. Many people commented having one, don't think paid enough attention to weight of a silver coin.

I have been saving quarters for years but do remember seeing bicentennial quarters a couple of times. Going to check my quarters carefully!

I haven't checked my coin collection..but I'm almost certain I may have them because I save ALL of my old change..and I have numerous examples of these that could match up.

Love the information and the quarter...wished they hadn't cleaned it and I know the owner wished that, too!

Very interesting. Have collected coins since I was a little kid, and did NOT know about this quarter!

I have one. Think I will have it graded. It looks pretty nice for a circulated coin

I definitely believe I may have one. The date and mint are correct and I picked it out of change because it sounded like silver. It definitely looks odd.

I've been just tossing the 1977 quarters into the nothing pile without even looking at them. I guess its true what they say, check every coin. I'll definitely pay more attention to the 1977D. Thanks for sharing.

First of all I really appreciate you and all your knowledge, thank you. I have a 1977 D and a 1976 D bicentennial quarters. And both don't attach to magnet what should I do next?

I'm sure there are more out there. The bad part about roll hunting is if you find one some one may have already cleaned it before you found it and that would be a bummer. Thanks for the video and info J&B

Very educational. Liked and subbed. I have an 1877-cc Seated Half dollar I bought on eBay. Something about the surfaces looked too good to be true. But I took a chance and sent it to ANACS for grading. It came back AU50, Re-punched Date but cleaned. The seller offered to refund me my money and return the coin. When I looked up the value with the RPD, I thanked him and said I'd keep it. I've sent a lot of coins to ANACS and have found them to be as strict or stricter than the other 3rd party grading services. Cheers, Bob
