Im eldest daughter... I never had close relationship with my dad, he was always veryy strict to me compare to my other siblings.. I got married when I was 33... And my father kinda.. Snapped... Even tho he loved my younger sister most in the world... Yet, when i left the house, he says a part of his just vanished, he says he never been same, his brain kinda shut off.. People in the comment section might have not seen the movie. Piku is a different themed film, unlike other films such as baghban , where parents are shown as vulnerable and kids as responsible for not taking care of them. Piku is a theme about how sometimes parents might turn selfish with age and don't let their children live on their own will, Piku is not able to find partners or live outside of her father's world, he constantly interferes in her life and even invades her relationship and prospective relationships due to his fear of losing her. Piku is an intelligent woman and she understands this but avoids facing the reality because she knows that her father was there for her when her mother died, therefore in a way she can't even leave him or tell him about his toxicity..but her development of emotions towards Irfan's character shows that she yearns for these things and her father's unintentional Interfernxe is actually affecting her. Irfan's character being an outsider to this father daughter relationship understands its toxicity while at the same time enjoying most aspects of their relationship, he makes her realize this and as a result before Bhaskar's death Piku snapes and with this realization Piku starts living for herself. Her father's death is a sign of how she has been freed from his entanglement and grows as an independent fearless woman.Her father didnot want anything bad for her he loved her but his love turned toxic due to his own insecurity of loosing his wife and thereby finding his world confined to Piku and fearing that he might loose her too. Indeed a beautiful film on father daughter relationship
