A United States Marine Corps Scout Sniper is a Marine, highly skilled in fieldcraft and marksmanship, who can deliver long-range precision fire on selected targets, from concealed positions in support of combat operations. United States Marine Corps Scout Sniper (MOS 0317, formerly 8541) is a secondary Military Occupational Specialty designator of U.S. Marine Corps infantrymen and reconnaissance Marines that have graduated from a U.S. Marine Corps Scout Sniper School.

I was in the airwing, my A and C school roommate/classmate was a scout/sniper dropout. he had already done SOI and failed the swim qual at little creek. For a guy that wanted to be a sniper, he did pretty good in electronics classes. we all had 5 year active duty contracts but he had a 4 year since he signed up as infantry. our schools were about 1.5 years so he got out pretty quickly after joining the fleet. Ahlemeyer, i hope you're doing good, buddy.

They have very different rifles than we used in the 60's and early 70's doing the same thing in Vietnam. M16, M14, and either a Remington 700 or a Winchester 70. Their optics are way more sophisticated than we had. The Starlight scope on an M16 was your night vision system. You had to have a 0300 MOS and qualify as expert. You then got got your 8541MOS added on.

군대서 연대 직속대루 나갓는데 미해병 스나이퍼 대단합니다.소변 보러 논쪽으로 갓는데 100여미터 되는데서 뭐가 꿈틀 거리길래 소대장 불러서 가봣는데 컥 역시나 스나이퍼 엿습니다. 그때는 스나이퍼가 뭔지도 몰랏는데 영어 잘하는 소대장이 통역 해줘서 알앗습니다.
저격수 화이팅 근데 전쟁이엿쓰면 저한테 발견되 나는 죽는거고 스나이퍼두 위험해 질수이겟죠? 그게 어언 35년전인가 아른거리네요.

Vous avez tout mon respect car j'ai tiré avec des fusils dit de précision j'ai vite compris à quelle point c'est dur même très très dur j'ai logiquement été écarté car je n'avais pas le niveau je suis français j'ai servi par la suite dans les transmissions en tant que grenadier voltigeur . C'est un métier un vrai métier . You have all my respect because I fired with precision rifles said I quickly understood how hard it is even very very hard I was logically discarded because I did not have the level I am French I later served in the transmissions as grenadier voltigeur . It’s a real job .
