***DISCLAIMER***
These lessons are based from the Minna No Nihongo Textbook (1st edition), which I chose because I’m familiar with it. But even if you don’t have the textbook, you can still follow along the lessons by just watching the video.

I'm not a native Japanese speaker nor am I a Japanese language teacher. I'm currently living in Japan and I use Japanese at work and daily life. I’m sharing what I’ve learned from my language school and through self-study. I’ve passed the JLPT N3 exam and am planning to take the JLPT N2 test in the future. So if you find any mistakes, feel free to let know so that we can all learn together. Thank you!

I cannot find the links for first edition, but I found the links for the latest edition of the textbooks which are pretty much the same as the first edition:

Now that I'm literally back in the classroom from this week, I have a completely new appreciation for your videos. Having explanations in English is so helpful. It's been difficult for me to understand exactly what we're doing in the classroom! Sweat😅

Konnichiwa Rose sensei, I wanna ask question on 18.39 you were used particle O between shigoto and owarimasu. So far on my nihongo lesson, I just know owarimasu only can following by particle GA. Can u explain why you use particle O on it? Thank you!

5:04 *If someone is having trouble understanding "yakunitatanakunatta" as much as I did, here's a teardown:*

TL;DR: "yakunitatsu" needs to be written as adjetive, in past tense and negative, and then "naru" in past tense.

1. The *adjetive* used is "yakunitatsu" which means "to be useful"
2. It is now converted into negative (nai form) and past tense as "yakunitatanaku" which means "useless" (the second "ta" is the past, the "na" is the negative from "nai" but the "i" is removed because of the "ku")
- Note that this is the adverbial form of "to be useful", not the verb, so the negative form is yakunitatanaku, not yakunitatanai. We need the adverbial form in order for naru (to become) to accept the negative, or in other words, using the adverbial form modifies the verb that will follow.
3. Then, "naru" (to become) in past tense (natta) is added to infer that the fax became useless, so "yakunitatanaku natta"

A space between those two words would have helped a lot in understanding as "yakunitatanakunatta" looks like a very threatening word to look at 😅

You can check the veracity of the past tense and negative tense of yakunitatsu (to be useful) in jisho . org / search / やくにたつ

I hope this helps someone. I know it's an OLD video but hey, I'm watching it so someone else might find this comment.
