Prob too late now but You can wrap the sides of the bulb in tin foil and screw up a little tail and connect through to the wire to get it working temporarily until you get the new one! Done it with VW bulb holders similar issue.

On the bright side it's good that the fault was discovered before the event. Maybe Elle was nervous about it and decided to let you know sooner rather than later, and that's a good thing. Don't be too hard on Elle, other options are available for the event.
