"House Speaker Mike Johnson struggled Tuesday to explain away former President Donald Trump's demand that he shut down the federal government should controversial legislation fail to pass.

Johnson said he and Trump were equally committed to passing the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility, or SAVE, Act hours after telling Punchbowl News' Jake Sherman he didn't want to shut down the government.

“He and I are saying exactly the same thing," Johnson told Punchbowl News' Melanie Zanona."

I renewed my TEXAS driver’s license today… (i’ve had one for almost 60 years.) To do so, i had to present driver’s license and birth certificate. 
AND…
I had to bring along social security card, plus other supporting documents JUST IN CASE proving i was born here and am a citizen. I brought my water bill and vehicle insurance policy to prove i live at the residence i claim, vehicle registration receipt and proof of current vehicle insurance. I filled in an extensive form asking questions about every one of these documents plus medical history and racial profile and swearing i was telling the truth.
BECAUSE…
I could have been asked at any time to produce these additional documents and refused a license if i could not produce them.
 NOTABLY…
I WAS questionned by the official about whether i have any hispanic roots. (???) REALLY?? (I don’t, but what would have happened if i do?)


I am waiting for the day when women have to prove they’ve never had an abortion or must produce medical records revealing they have, or that they practice contraception, because that’s next in Texas.
