Hearing this live at EDC Las Vegas 2017 was absolutely amazing and words cannot describe the feelings I experienced when he played his set. The funny thing is for Day 1 (The day he played) the shuttles and traffic were absolutely ridiculous there and we were at a standstill in traffic for 30 mins and we were still 4 miles away. Our group said fuck it and walked in 100 degree heat, walking through the desert, jumping 4 fences, oh and a girl in our group had 2 fucked up ankles so me and one other dude had to carry this girl on our backs the entire way there.

Illenium was the first set we saw after that hike. And god damn it I'd be a filthy liar if I didn't say I cried like a bitch when he came on...

The melodic guitar pitched up while Echos hums her verses let's you know you are in for something different, then coming in with Daya repeating the famous "I need you right now" somehow bringing you further into the music: like this music and these sounds wouldn't exist without you, begging you to keep listening. A faint whisper of "let me disarm you" allows you to give more into the music, taking whatever it was you were holding onto away and allowing you to just enjoy what is about to come as it continues to build up. Once given into the song, it drops off slightly into a sincere "Close your eyes" while the melody continues to play in the background, letting you know it's still there but telling you to just become fully immersed in the experience. It repeats over and over to close your eyes and allow the music to take you to another dimension. That's only when it begins to build again, to bring you back, combining everything together, building, building, building, and then the drop. God how that drop just hits, the pureness of Afterlife blasting in your ears and just letting you jam however you want. Head nodding to the beat, feeling everything come rushing through you, and then Afterlife rounds out the rest of the song as it always has done so gracefully. It was one of Illenium's first greatest songs, and yet still holds that title 4 albums and hundreds of mixes/remixes later.

I won't lie, each time I hear this mashup I get choked up. His music to me always finds that bit of me that's vulnerable and just needs some comfort knowing as Echos says, to tell me I'll be fine. To tell me I can keep going, and just allow the music to guide me and let me be myself for a couple minutes and drown the outside world.

I know Illenium has touched many people who struggle with all sorts of things, and I'm so happy he can have such a positive impact to those people. While I might not be someone who has had it hard in life, be it something physical or mental, his music still hits me. That escape and freedom that only music can bring, that is what I listen for. Thank you Nick, I can't wait to see you again!
