Tchaikovsky - June: Barcarolle (G minor) - Lang Lang

I really like Lang Lang's interpretation of this little piece. Every single note is meticulously played and the expressiveness touches my heart. The soft tones are played beautifully.

In 1989, French composer Philippe Sarde worked this same theme into his music for the Jean Jacques Annaud film "The Bear" ("L'Ours"). He described it as having been inspired by a traditional Jewish melody. It is plausible that Tchaikovsky took inspiration from such as well, but I am unable to verify. I don't know what the truth is, but I do recommend a listen. The orchestration is a delight, especially for a transcriptions junkie such as myself.

I'm 70 and never knew of this piece. Watching Goodbye, Petrushka, it opened with this for a figure skating program. I fell in love with it and finally, I found piano music of Tchaikovsky that I would add to my limited repertoire.

As always Lang lang tears it up. Ive heard him play this a cpl of times both are very impressive and unique. I love how he takes time and emphasises the really beautiful chords. Also credit where it's due to Tchaikovsky

I like it when a pianist takes liberties with the score. I like the general theme, but the mid section isn't my favorite. This one kind of condenses the piece to it's best components. (Compare to Richter's.) Thanks for posting.
