I love the red glow in the back left of the video. It's atmospheric.

Best way to start warhammer is save £5000 first

As someone who trained to be a cinematographer a few years back...

Kudos on the lighting job! This is looking much swisher!

You just need to light behind you now :-)

these getting started videos you've made are pretty cool, I've been researching getting into 40k for the past week. this has helped.

Honestly Im so ready for a simpler edition. AOS was a tad too much for me, but after the generals handbook even that is growing on me. Its so nice to just be able to grab my models and play a game with my buddies. Without hours of sifting through rules bloat. Mainly because I think it will make playing 40k a bigger part of my free time. So often have I given up and played video games with my friends instead, because I dont have time for a full-time job of undestanding the rules.

I introduced myself to the 8th edition through the Know No Fear starter set. I know it's just meant to scratch the surface, but i'ts more than enough for now. My best friend and I have been having a lot of fun learning how to play it. In addition, I'm painting it since my friend is not really into miniature painting.

So GW's big promise of 'The rules will be free!' really means 'the rules are at the cheapest 85$'.

Me and my friend both wanted to get into warhammer 40k so we went halves for the ‘Dark Imperium’ and ‘know no fear’ sets for $185 AUD each, plus $100 or so for all the right paints. Overall $285 each for almost 2000 point armies very well painted isn’t too bad compared to the other prices.

I used to play WH40K back in the late 80s and had a couple units of, iirc, Blood Angels and a Rhino. Also played Space Hulk quite a bit and really liked the Genestealers as that game was as close as you could get to playing Aliens at the time.

I've been getting back into the hobby after some ~30yrs mainly to teach my daughter about the hobby, but now the number of miniatures games out there is ridiculous. I've got X-Wing, Armada (complete), some Wings of Glory WW2, Bolt Action, and most recently bought into Star Wars Legion. As cool as 8th edition looks, I can't imagine dropping another $500 to get the necessary books and units (as I'd need two factions). I was watching a recent BR that had Tyrannids vs Space Marines and man oh man it was hard not to go off and splurge at my local GW. Argh. Maybe one year.

Love the channel btw. :)

My brother first got me into the Lore and now I want to start. I read about Germaldus and the Black Templars instantly became a fan. Thanks for the information.

"You only need to get like $200 worth of stuff for one person to play." No wonder I was into it back in the late 90's with a job and no bills, but stopped after I had to start Adulting....I had forgotten the costs!

I just want let you know that despite that fact that I've already learned everything I wanted about 8th Edition and other required stuff including those nice offers with starter sets and I even found couple online shops which sells GW products with 10-20% discounts watching your video was a pleasure.

With the start collecting boxes, if you get a second one to bolster the first at awesome value, I would almost always convert the second HQ for an alternate loadout, alternatively (as you said) use him as a separate painting project, always nice to have a single mini to go to town on for fun and learning as a break from units and larger scale painting projects. Example, I picked up a start collecting Dark eldar box just before 8th was announced, converted the archon a little, just a helmet and arm and weapon adjustments and swaps but when I get a 2nd box I will build him different, or as he is supposed to be.

We live in a world where 40k is legitimately the manliest hobby.

Primaris - 969 points
Death Guard - 835 pts

Primaris are ready to go out of the box, Death Guard have room for another unit or two. Most people I've talked to about their starter Death Guard seem to be leaning towards throwing in a Predator.

I get paid tomorrow too. Going to at least pick up the Imperium I book and maybe a new model set. I just finished painting my Space Marine start collecting box, extra Space Marine Squad and Predator tank. I'm trying to take your advice and get everything painted before buying more stuff.
