Conviviality: Institutions versus Individuals

In Tools for Conviviality, Illich argues that people have assumed beliefs and behaviors that come from institutions (and that benefit them, not individuals). I talk about two of these. First, the belief that technology is the best tool to get us to achieve social cohesion. Second, that we people need schedules and therapy (or corrective interventions) to better function in society. Both are wrong. Illich invites us to ponder, to think through this.

My hope is that this short video helps kickstart some of that reflection.
