The Toyota Soarer was a car we unfortunately never had in the US. However the Lexus SC300 is the closest thing we got to the legendary JDM icon but didn't have the motor we desired. The Lexus SC300 had a 2JZ-GE naturally aspirated engine compared to the 1JZ turbo engine in the Soarer. This 430HP turbo spooling Lexus has a ton of personality and looks fantastic. So what's it like driving a "Toyota Soarer" in America? Let's go for a drive and find out! Thanks for watching and new uploads every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday!

Ahh, the Sc. The Soarer. It was never the poor man's Supra. It was the gentleman's Supra. Luxury, comfort, and class.

The SC300 is so underrated
It shared the same platform with the Supra and in a way a cheap Supra

I’ve loved these cars since my friend had a low mileage 3 year old example. At the time, it was by far the nicest road trip car I had the pleasure of riding in. So smooth and quiet you could hear a pin drop. I bought my ‘96 1UZ last year on a whim. I just had this feeling they were on the verge of gaining popularity with the Supra selling at FU money. Then one night, I woke up for a midnight snack and started a random eBay search. And there it was. So cheap I thought it had to be a scam. Royal Jade Pearl gold package, rust free Southern California car, lowered, nice wheels and
I sent the seller a message and he responded immediately and confirmed it was the correct price. I pulled the trigger within minutes and 3 weeks later it arrived at 2 o’clock in the morning on a car hauler. The seller had just installed brand new Tein coilovers the month before I bought it. He claimed the wheels were “just OEM Lexus wheels from a GS300”. I could not find any GS online with the wheels until recently. To my surprise, they’re rare OEM OZ Super Turismos from the Lexus short lived L-Tuned performance division.
I don’t condone buying one based on wheels and stance. Those things are relatively inexpensive. First and foremost, have a budget. Then buy the cleanest example you can find from a rust free part of the country. They’re old and you will have to turn a wrench at some point. They all suffer from the same common problems. Door sag, cracked plastic interior pieces, leaking power steering hose, burnt out dash lights and climate control units, cracked upper door trim, torn leather seats and lower control arms. Find one where these issues have been fixed already.
Even with 225k my 1UZ still passes the champagne glass on top of the engine test from the original television ad.

I’ve waited so long for you to do a review on a turbocharged sc300. They’re so rare these days
