Grew up with a father that was a marine engineer...could fix anything from mechanical, structural, electronic. Every thing from jet engines to pc's to fishing reels to household appliances. And do it perfectly and it stayed fixed.. the man taught me alot.

I've fixed several holes in combine auger tubes with flattened beer cans and duct tape.

I do the same, it may not work as it should, but it works as needed.

I have old metal, welders and all, I don't see broken stuff, I see options to get it working again.

People like David are rare, cherish him, he's a 1:10000.

As a farmer, my 1st thought was always, can I fix it myself! Maybe even improve it!

My dad!!! King of baling wire for every repair! I was in college when I learned he had reattached part of my muffler to the frame of my 74 Thunderbird with a little wire. The guy at the shop said my dad did a great job but didn't think about me getting asphyxiated. I asked my dad, he said, well, roll down the window! 💀

Female here who welds for a living and idk how many times i have been called to come fix something that broke. Planter hitch snapped in half, hole in the hopper of a combine, bearing going out in auger cart, window shattered in grinder/mixer, frame on grain cart cracked, arm of skid steer broke, patching a bucket, building a corn reel for a few farmers after derecho, building specialized grill guards for tractors after derecho for the farmers who had to mow down their crop to keep the stalks and leaves from overheating the tractors and idk how many more fixes/projects. I have even built/welded lockers for a small town fire dept, fabricated custom gates and panels, make ranch guards and tool racks for trucks and lots more. I am 5'2 130 lbs and have found out that if u know how to weld or fix anything, ur phone is always going off especially when its a tight area.
Ill gladly help anyone out and most times all i ask for is them to grill me a ribeye or help me when I need it.

Bypassed a broken switch that set a woodchipper from idle to feeding, with a loop of paracord. I called my boss as it was the first week of working with him, after I diagnosed the problem and had a solution in hand. Had been in tree care since I was 5, had done some risky work and "inspired" repairs with my dad. Didn't know how tolerant my new boss was, he was cool with my bypass loop and ordered the part once he got back to the job.

When you break something on the agricultural equipment is not just a quick fix

It generally costs 10s of thousands of dollars ( depending on what you broke )...

Normally on a weekend during seeding or harvest peak season where every thing is closed ....

And any mobile help costs an arm and both legs

So you have no choice but to jerry rig a fix to keep going

As time is money....

Dad is a baling wire guy! He hangs wire on everything! Pisses me off. Fix it right usually saves time in the long run!

Reminds me of my dad and just me being amazed at how he can get stuff fixed up. Though he sure complained alot while doing it, wishing my grandfather would get some new machinery. Rip dad.

That's my dad ( and to an extent, me as well). He can fix anything in a building or car. Keep it running if he lives there, or get you by for the week atleast, if he comes mes over and "fixes" it. I can do it with houses and appliances. But my Pa is the king of rigging together and making it work without stopping the process.

Brings me back to the baling days. Thinking you’re good with extra spare parts along. Then you pick up a cross arm from an old power pole they left behind into the baler On the same stretch of ditch you just literally broke the cutting bar off the disk mower from hitting a hidden stump. That’s why I always say good luck wherever someone is heading out to the field.
