We have recently spent some time back in Perth and had the opportunity to weigh up the pros and cons of life in Australia. It is certainly a nice place but it has its drawbacks.

For my taste I put low population density in the plus column.

I think that seeming like a 'ghost town' is a pro.

The cons to me are a blessing. Come live in India to know the burden of having a huge population.

Compared to Sydney, the driving time to get to places in Perth is absolutely nothing! I agree that it's definitely very clean in comparison to many places, and the proximity to the beach is fantastic. For me the low population density is a plus - it's nice to have a bit of peace! The distance from the rest of the world (plus ski fields) is definitely a con though.

Perth is literally like a small town whenever I meet someone new I always can find a common connection

I just moved to Perth from Melbourne, it is brand new and nice weather, always sunny and blue sky. I always thought beaches in Melbourne are the best until I arrived in Perth. I think all the best beaches are in Perth, Melbourne has nothing after all.

I’m born and bred Sydney. Perth is amazing. It’s literally the best if you have children. Heavenly

Let us bear in mind few important points: AUSTRALIA IS CLEAN AND BEAUTIFUL EVERYWHERE. The infrastructure and the public service amazes and not to be found anywhere in the world. Parks are manicured and well kept on regular basis. The fact that Australia has low populations is a great asset. Less people, less pollution and problems. One can live very well in Australia. We have lived in various parts of the world including Africa and Latin America. As many nowadays we have travelled extensively and done our research. Australia is pretty unique and, to our eyes it is the New America. Prices are related with income - a sensible comparison will do. If you earn money in Oz well you can have a great quality of life and afford many things that in other countries are not that easy. If one comes from countries with a currency stronger thatn the Ozzie dollar - then, nothing really is "that" expensive with the exception of houses. Whether you wish to buy or to rent - well, prices are not low. Australia has it all in climate and choices. Most importat Australia offers a great lifestyle appealing to all ! Check on other cities and places if you wish as it is relevant to have a proper perspective. We have also travelled within Australia and lived in Tasmania for fews years. Also in Melbourne and, all being well, heading for WA in the future. By the way, taking time to get to places in WA or else is NOT necessary something negative: one can fly if you wish to be there in a short timeand if not, enjoy the amazing scenery and get to know the history of each place and their people. Good luck everyone!

right at the beginning, about 30 secs in, You said "It smells like trees, instead of curry sauce" It took me 3 replays to realise you said car exhaust. I feel foolish. lol. Perth loves you.

I just spent 4 months in Perth, did a lot of exploring of the city, beaches from Wedge Island down to Albany, all of which are absolutely beautiful with miles of walk ways and bicycle paths, lots of great restaurants up and down the coast, bars and cafes to suit everyone's taste and budget.Overall I loved the whole Perth/W.A area and would highly recommend it to anyone thinking of moving there long or short term, the people still have a civility about them you don't find in a lot of other big cities.maybe waking up to blue skies and having the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen makes the difference, anyway if you ever get the chance go and see for yourself, you won't be disappointed.

Spent 5 weeks there and Freemantle last year. Long days/overnights out to Panicles, Wave rock, Hamlin Bay etc etc. Cannot wait to get back in November for 8 weeks this time. Love the place. All Pro's for me.

It’s actually just near 2 million people now yet sprawls over an area the size of the state of New Jersey. So while a decent population everyone has space. Sunsets are unlike anywhere else and blue water everywhere. I love it

All the cons, I find them as pros. Definitely Perth is my I love beaches, deserts and forests, I love empty cities, I do not like public transportation, I have my own vehicle since I am 16, I love stay home fixing stuff and doing little renovation projects.... I love drive long distances....
I should leave Montreal and move there....

OMG! It sounds like heaven to me.. California use to be like Australia where it was isolated and had less dense population.. Also it was super rural and you could live happily in the countryside with out a ton of people..
