The Big Picture : PM Modi's Japan Visit

Description-Strengthening of ties in key areas of defence, trade and infrastructure will top the agenda when Prime Minister Narendra Modi meets his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe in Japan next week, the country's envoy Kenji Hiramatsu said Monday. At an interaction at the Brookings India think tank, Kenji said talks are on between the two sides on strengthening maritime cooperation, including the signing of the Mutual Logistical Support Agreement. PM Modi will be in Japan on October 28 and 29 for the annual summit between the prime ministers of the two countries. It will be the fifth annual summit between Modi and Abe and their 12th meeting overall since 2014. India and Japan are collaborating on various fronts including high-speed railway, which has been planned between Mumbai and Ahemdabad. The project has been facing resistance over acquisition of land. Japan is also funding the project and the envoy said the first tranche of loan has been transferred.

There is two broad area in which we can deal in the present geopolitical scenario...

1) Defense side:- India is eager to use the defence technology equipments of Japan..as the Japan is next to the U.S. in the technology specialist in maritime and anti-submarine warfare technology.

2) connectivity issue:- both India and Japan interested in the alternative to china's BRI connectivity. within India, we continued our connectivity in the N-E region and with many south Asian countries like Bangladesh Myanmar and Bhutan.

india and Japan are mutually sponsoring for the Afro-Asia growth corridor, it is the 5th meeting of PM Modi with the PM of Japan... in the last 4 years, we have inked various pacts and continued developing for various infrastructure...trade and business projects...

Delhi Metro was one of the biggest mega-project that is running successfully. the North East Road project is going well.. In Delhi-Mumbai business corridor construction had begun... latest was the bullet train project.. so everything is on the track and going forward in a well-trained manner

In the Indo-Pacific concern both countries are working well together.. we can't provoke China, but with the mutual concern we can make them ready for the south pacific sea issue through dialogues only for the freedom of navigation and the dialogue must be in a legitimate way within the boundary of international maritime law...

this annual meeting was about reemphasizing the strategic discussion about how to deal with China in the Indo-pacific region is at the top priority.
