Off Grid Homestead VLOG

I have a porcupine problem no doubt about it! But we are learning as we go! We choose to compost our number 2 waste into fertilizer! The job is a dirty one and def not for everyone! Our system works really well! Any tips on how to get rid or these porcupines? I mean they are a real nuisance! If I told you how many of them have already came through & have been delt with already you wouldn’t believe me! Maybe live trapping would work to not harm them and we can just relocate them. But honestly they just keep coming one after the next!!! HELP! Anyways if you’d like more vlogs like this let me know please! If not.. let me know that too 🙈💁🏽‍♀️ xx

you could tack that HD chicken wire you used for your compost pile to the bottom of the $hit shack. The critters can't chew through that to get to the wood. I've seen this used successfully on remote cabins. GL

Maam you need a long handled shovel to turn your
compost once it's genuinely
working. It should be half
steaming and hot when it's
working. Organic food waste
and everything else should
go in there along with some
chicken poop and cow manure. The compost working
properly and heating up is
supposed to kill all the bacteria. Please don't stick
your hands in there anymore

Put, chicken wire under the base of your compost house and make door using double sided chicken wire. Or build a wire fence and place copper grounding wire around the bottom and use a low voltage dry cell battery. Just a little shock, nothing too extravagant. They won't be back after these methods

I use all galvanized cans with locking lids in my coup. nothing gets in. Also I lined the ground under the coup with steel mesh going up the side 6 inches to stop critters getting in.

I suggest a worm bin for your kitchen scraps I have one set up that's dedicated for worm tea it works great it doesn't smell there's no bugs just can't let it get too hot

Use the carpenter smash like skirting around the building buried in the ground always that'll keep critters out from underneath your shed

Howdy! Maybe get a piece of sheet metal and attach it to one side of the plywood 3/4 I think is strong enough to stand on and change the bottom half of those screens to wood also, and make it high enough so that they cannot get in and if you want use sheet metal on the outside as to make it slippery and then they can’t get in!! Try that and see how that works?

Hey Margo what about a little radio out there or a speaker and light motion activated ...might keep them away . Traps should work . I have to say i never had so much fun watching a project get done . Oh and of course you have the biggest eyes ive ever seen :-) ..wink wink . Keep posting videos please your personality is so sweet your just down to earth and a dig lover like me .
