How to spot unmarked UK Police Cars!

This is how we spot unmarked/undercover Police on UK roads.

Like many of you we spend our weekdays racking up miles on the British motorways, so these are just a few tips based on what we've noticed -  have we missed anything? (warn a brother!)

In Nottingham there's Volvo's, BMW's, Skoda's, even S3's and Golf R's all with dark rear tinted windows

The most outrageous instance of undercover I’ve seen, is two uniformed officers in a black Toyota Prius with the official taxi badges on the rear. This was in Central London

What you might be seeing is NOT undercover covert police vehicles. There are doctors, paramedics who use their vehicles 24/7 for work and personal use, and two doors from me is my local Fire Chief who has an unmarked white Skoda Kamiq fully kitted up. 😜

Most police cars are under 3 years old. They tend to change fleet before the 1st MOT's due. The most popular undercover car used is an Audi A6 estate at the moment. I'm a technician based in the West Midlands. We ususlly work on police vehicle's through the night.

My mate is in the SAS and he told me that the cars only come direct from the manufacturer, so the number plates won't have a car dealership mark like every other garage, they also have no dealership sticker in the rear window. They nearly always have dark windows in the back so you can't see anything till you see the driver.

In the north east we had undercover golf GTIs, Octavia VRS and many X5s as you mentioned and that's pretty much all I've seen over the past 4 years. Recently only seen X5s. Not much variety with Northumbria Police. I'm sure down south there is a much wider variety. Easy for me to spot is the ANPR on the roof too. They all had those

The reason they are called undercover is because they will literally use any motor to make an arrest. Dont do crime and youll be safe

When I moved to my new area, I mistook a dual carriageway 40mph, for a national speed limit at 70mph, and I was going 78mph (allegedly). I saw a BMW 330D (Hertfordshire Police frequently use ‘OU’ prefixes on their plates, but this one was ‘EO16’. It must have caught up with me at something like 130mph, because there was nothing behind me prior to the few seconds it caught up. M Sport headlights were on this one (atypical as they use SEs usually, with normal lights). Button blaster lights in the corners of the windscreens and grill lights. Scariest thing I’ve ever experienced. 2 officers in bulky jackets were the ones who gave it away. I hoped they’d overtake but they followed me to the gym, and bollocked me. There are 3 colours of unmarked in my area, silver, navy blue and black (poss a maroon red?)

Always look out for an extra little mirror on top of the front passenger side mirror !! most have them!!

Northamptonshire are now sporting Seat Cupra Estates, marked and unmarked.

If you’re behind one at lights, you can see NORPOL on the number plate caption, KX prefix, and rarely older than 3 years old.

I had a Volvo V70 a few years ago, everyone slowed down on the motorway when I was in view. My dealer used to sh!t himself when I picked up a cheech. Endless fun.

Another tip is be careful if you get a sudden strong whiff of bacon but there's no greasy spoon nearby!

Thanks for this video. I have fb friends that are spreading a meme that states only the US uses unmarked police cars therefore the US is the only police state in the world.

I've been pulled over many times (I've had some nice cars!) here in Michigan but never once by an unmarked car. Anyway, great video and happy motoring!
