A message from Kristine, founder of NurseInTheMaking📣
My name is Kristine and I survived nursing school…and you can too!
Nurse In The Making was inspired during my time in nursing school. I immediately struggled and decided to create my own study guides. These guides have helped me personally as well as many others make nursing school just a little more manageable.I hope you find comfort knowing that everyone struggles at times. Nursing school is emotionally and physically draining. I hope these informative, clean, and simple guides help you navigate through all the information because there is A LOT of it in nursing school.

Happy Studying Future Nurses. Don't forget to enjoy the journey!

That’s the best-looking vein I’ve seen thus far!!😊

The tourniquet should be removed while pressing or putting pressure a little far just like estimate where the tip of the plastic catheter was placed, like an inch or half an inch above the tip of iv catheter is where pressure should be placed to prevent leak or backflow

Pressure needs to be applied above the needle to occlude the vein.

Once the needle is advanced, remove the tourniquet, get finger ready on vein to hold pressure, get finger on safety button, press down for pressure farther back on the catheter near the tip, press safety button.

she didnt release the tourniquet before removing the needle

Pressure should be applied at the tip end of the catheter while the tonique is released followed by caping of the catheter before releasing the pressure

Its also a very big vein, maybe then harder to apply enough pressure

Did not hold tamponade correct should apply pressure right above where you feel the catheter is trust me it took me a while to get good at this now I can do it with no mess at all

She didn't locate the end of the cannula before removing the tourniquet

Failure to cap the catheter and had the tourniquet removed instantly.

You didn't have the thing hooked up to the thing that like sucks the blood up into the little container

This is exactly how my first iv attempt went :(

Nothing went wrong. a big vein with slight pressure as a result of the tourniquet. Once the tourniquet is removed, it'll stop in the next 10 seconds....

put more pressure and remove tourniquet right when putting pressure

I’m a medsurg nurse.. the AC is always wrong… lol but I believe it was the tourniquet

But what if you have to draw labs beforehand? You'd need the tourniquet to stay in place. Pressing down at the tip of the cath would stop the blood from flowing out.

Your hospital ordered the wrong IV’s and now your patient is bleeding everywhere

They occluded the vein right by the hub and not above where the catheter tip is in the vein. An inch higher on the vein and there’s no mess. Gotta think of where the catheter is in the vein. Trust me, I used to do this A LOT.

This is always my issue. Everyone bleeds. I don’t think I put pressure far up enough. 😂
