My journey to try KFC in every country has now taken me to Cambodia, the land of smiles. I’m here in the city of Siem Reap, famous for its Angkor Wat temples rather than its fried chicken. But just like many other Asian countries, fried chicken has a solid place in the Cambodian culinary scene and it’s not uncommon to find pushcarts on the side of the road selling Khmer style fried chicken for $1-$2. So with such good value proposition from its local competitors, can the KFC in Cambodia get the taste of 11 secret herbs & spices right to convince local customers?

Joining me today to taste test Siem Reap’s one and only KFC outlet is fellow fried chicken enthusiast Aidan Nguyen. We were fortunately enough to be here during two KFC promotions – Ghost Pepper Zinger Burger and Parmesan Truffle Zinger Burger, but unfortunately this store did not have Parmesan Truffle in stock during my visit . No matter, with ghost pepper supposedly 400x hotter than Tabasco sauce, this is sure to be a good experience and hopefully we won’t regret this tomorrow morning in the toilet 😅.

=========Spoiler alert=========
Here is our final verdict:
• Ghost Pepper Zinger Burger – chicken fillet was juicy and tender but a tad small compared to the bun, the ghost pepper sauce was disappointing and wasn’t that spicy at all
• Fried chicken – we liked the crunchy batter but the batter needs more flavouring, chicken itself can be inconsistent in terms of quality
• Potato chips – absolutely horrible, dry and flavourless
===========================
Also, totally unrelated to our experience here, Aidan turned vegetarian a few months later so please join me in offering condolences. RIP Aidan.
