Soumitra Thakur was born in a family of musicians on 16th October 1993 at Ranchi, Jharkhand.
He was initiated in the art of music and sitar playing at a very tender age by his father Shri Uttam Thakur.
He began his formal training under the guidance of his uncle Shri Prashant Thakur of the Bishnupur Gharana.
Later he went on to become the disciple of Sitar Maestro Pt Kushal Das ji of the Maihar Gharana.

He has many awards and recognitions to his credit including The senior scholarship from the Ministry of Culture 2014, The Balshree award 2009, First prize at Doverlane Music Competition 2010 etc.
He has performed all across the country at various prestigious venues and festivals.

He holds an undergraduate degree in Economics from Hindu College, University of Delhi and is continuing his research work in Music from the same University.
