This is Sweetwater's fault as much as it is Schecter's. If anything, they were the last to touch the guitar so I'd probably say they're the MOST responsible.

People blaming schechter, keep in mind that guitar supposedly went through Sweewaters 55-point check. So it was most likely damaged in shipping or Sweetwater lied. Sweetwater sold me a custom shop Charvel as new that had neck pocket crack, stripped vibrato posts, and they FORGOT to put candy in the case…. So I wouldn’t be blaming Schechter at all… and I’m not even a Schechter fan…

Typically, Schecter has some of the best QC for their price range but THIS, this is outrageous. Someone f*cked up bad.

Did I see the "SET UP TO PLAY" sticker on there? Ahahaha

First thing I would be doing is taking all of the tension off the strings, and pulling the neck and inspecting the screw holes on it to make sure that no wood got stripped out. If it looks good, I'd just put it back together nice and snugly, and call it a day.

It also had a Sweetwater 55 point inspection sheet under the strings.

That means sweetwater also should have inspected it. I’d hope it didn’t get through them like that as well.

This is Steve from Schecter. That guitar is fine. You may want to educate yourself on our website before you make inaccurate assumptions. The guitar you have there features our new (c)Whammy-Nek. The neck is put in “Whammy” mode by loosening the neck joint screws by 20 turns. This enables you to use the neck as a whammy bar/tremolo effect by shifting the neck back and forth loosening & tightening the string tension. Most importantly I actually don’t work for Schecter at all. I don’t even play guitar. I’m just thinking about buying one so I can get a girlfriend. Your new CD is hella awesome. You rip, dude. Big time.

This was obviously damaged in shipping. I have been to both the Schecter factory where they have a whole team that inspects all their guitars, as well as Sweetwater, who also inspects and takes pictures of all the guitars they sell.
No way something like that got passed both inspections unnoticed.

Good thing that it was a bolt on neck. If it was a set neck or neck through the damage would probably have been much worse if it was shipping related.

That's CRAZY, my only guitars so far are both Schecters and they have been 9/10 guitars. It's kind of crazy it was that loose. You were even getting ready to torque up on it and it just easily screwed in. I have no idea how that happened.

Was that a Sweetwater card on it? If so, how did they miss this? I know some other retailers don't even check the boxes they get, but Sweetwater is supposed to open them up and take pictures and, of course, inspect the guitars before customers get them.

Hard to believe the screws would just come loose during shipping. Seems multiple steps have been skipped from quality to sweetwater

Now this is content. Good thing you had the screwdriver at an arms reach!

Sweetwater are more to blame than Schecter imo

Holy smokes... Schecter? Wtf!!? That's brutal! Would you be able to keep us updated on this one? I would be so unbelievably gutted if a guitar arrived in that condition.

That should have been caught before shipping for sure. However it looked like it was OK after you tightened the screws. As long as all the neck screws tightened down good, and the action sets up fine. I wouldn't worry about it. If the neck screws were stripped though then that would be a different story. I could fix the stripped screws if they were, but many people couldn't so that would have been a major issue.
